Will I be fined?

Drove into the city centre last night after having dinner and a couple of drinks. Had a bit of difficulty finding a parking bay close enough to where we were heading so I nipped down a side street(which wasn't signed as being "no left turn") and parked up.

Before long a police van drove across the street and out jumped a scary woman shouting that I'd parked facing the wrong way on a one way street. Proceeded to breathilise me in the back of the van, said it was an offence to drive down a one way street and they'd let me turn around and drive off.

That's it? They didn't mention any fines or points? Just took my name and address? I'm worried incase a fine flies through the post?

would have thought they would have mentioned a fine if they were going too.. even if the fine wasnt on the spot... i doubt they'll fine you, probs just a warning kinda thing...

i don't like the idea of scary women jumping out of the back of vans!

I wouldn't worry one bit about it, if they wanted to fine you they would have taken down all your details and then proceeded to give you a ticket and asked you to sign it to accept what you did.

We all make genuine mistakes and thats what they probably accepted it to be. Yes its an offense but if you innocently did it and they accepted it then dont worry.

If none of the above happened, dont worry its Christmas.

Had something similar happen myself, police said they would't send me a fine, lo and behold a month later something like a fine dropped through my letterbox, basically pay this penalty thing or we 'may' take you to court.

My mates a PO in glasgow too, said its a possibility something might come through your door if they've booked you.

Ah, nuts! I was hoping to avoid someone saying that!

From watching BBC traffic cops I was slightly under the impression they generally issued fines on the spot.

You're gonna get sent down. Britain's streets will be far safer as a result. I hope will you spend your time in prison reflecting on the severity of what you did.

Normally you'd get written up for it on the spot... but its not a guarantee... probably their focus is on drink drivers atm tho so you might get away with it.

It wasn't signed. I drive into the city centre practically 2-3 times a week, never had a problem.
