Question will I get a big increase across the board, over my 7800gt with a x1900xt ? I will have a surplus gt but thats not really an issue prices are good on the x1900,s at the moment so im tempted was going to get a 7900gtx but the ati,s are cheaper.

I would also like to know about this as I'm pondering on the same question - I currently have a 7800GT but the prices of the 1900s are unbelieveable. I'm very tempted to go for one when theyre only £300ish. But is it really worth it? (I've googled but can't find any direct comparison reviews, altho seems to be around a 20-30% increase generally, was just wondering if anyone had seen any direct comparisons)

Also is the best indication of future games generally the latest 3dMark? Because if i was going for the x1900xt then I would like it to last ~2 years running games at 1600x1200 or 1280x1024 if absolutley necessary. Any info welcome.

same as, Im coming from 6800gt's in sli, would like to know what kind of gain im gonna get going to a 1900xtx, i think its just gonna be a case of try and see :)

Hmm, X1900 vs 7800GT

Yes, the X1900 is a superior card, and yes it will perform better, however, you are not talking earth-shatteringly better.

As the poster above says, if the 7800GT does what you want now, why do you feel the need to upgrade? Don't be to tempted by the price - in 6-12 months when you may need to upgrade to keep up with the latest and greatest games with good performance, the X1900s will be 70% of today's best prices.

Personally I wouldn't waste the money.

I just upgraded from a 7800 GT to a 7900 GT purely on the fact that I got a faster card and the upgrade cost me 40 quid after selling my 7800 GT.

This is what I do with upgrades.Get the next gen for little outlay and have a play with them.selling the previous gen while I can still get something for it.

And the cycle continues.

My 7800 GT got 7700 3d marks in 05 and my 7900 GT is currently getting 9820 3d marks in 05.(still clocking)

not a bad speed boost for 40 quid.

I would imagine that after you sell your 7800 GT you still have to fork out a fair bit for the x1900.

But hey we are all guilty of being upgrade junkies. :p

I've just recently sold my 7800GT and am looking for an upgrade as well (suffering badly on this Voodoo 3 in sig), preference at the moment is either a X1900XT-X or a 7900GTX. :p Providing there will be price drops for Nvidia cards, it should be feasible.

The 7900GT does look nice though as with the X1900s. I think you'd see a decent performance gain on an X1900XT.

My Gt does handle everything well but the one game i want more power in or more eye candy is forgotten battles, if i can throw on more tap and aa then it wont be a waste of money, giving my bro my gt will have been a waste on money :)

Hi, you can forget "eye candy" in Forgotten Battles with an x1900xt because you cannot run high detail SM3.0 water with one.

If you really want a high end card, i'd wait till we have the 7900GTX in plenty supply at the e-tailers because they'll really come down in price then (won't be long) ;)

Are there any ETA times as to when the supply of these 7900GTX will steady to warrant a price reduction? Seems to be taking some time... :) Perhaps it's because I currently can not run any games.

The X1900s look tempting from my original 7800GT, but I've got to see what Nvidia have to offer first. ;)

Hang loose dude! :p

when stock multiplies .....pounce and get the 7900 GTX. YOu will regret getting the x1900 IMO if you really want the GTX

Indeed I am.... waiting and waiting. I must be honest, I've never owned an ATi card, but the X1900XT-X do look nice. :o Perhaps I've turned into an Nvidia fanboy. I've more excitement for the 7900GTX. :)
