Will i see a difference worth £250 between my 6800GT and the Xbox 360?

I want to get either a PS3 or an Xbox 360. It's hard for anyone other than the Japanese to say whether the PS3 or 360 is better than the other. However i'm still in two minds about which console to get.

Do i get the backards compatible console with the nice easy to use controllers with a lot of titles being released that i really enjoy, or do i go for the older 360 of which i have no games, but has amazing titles like Gears of War and Halo 3 to be released.

Right at this very moment, if i am patient enough, i'd go for a PS3 simply because i like the controllers and i can play my old games on it as well. But i'm extremely impatient and would really like a 360 for something like christmas, and there are a lot of titles i can't wait to play on it, Gears of War being one.

Anyways, now for my question. I am a PC user because i find it actually pretty cheap, games are only £25 and usually i get them for under £10 once they are a few months old. However the 360, or any next gen console looks so more enticing these days. I own a 6800GT on a Intel 3.4Ghz PC, it's not the most amazing PC ever but man do the graphics look good, some titles i play look on par with the 360.

My question is, will it be worth me spending £250 on a 360 this christmas, or shall i just stick with my 6800GT. I don't own a 360, and i've never played on one so i don't know how superior the graphics are to my PC. Are they a lot better, or a little better?

No fanboy talk or anything!! I don't know why i went on about the PS3, it was really more a question of the choice between a 360 and a 6800GT.

Cheers.

I have a 6800GT and a 360. I can't really say whether the graphics are better on one than the other tbh. Prey looks loads better on my pc than on the 360 but Splinter Cell Double Agent would run badly on a 6800GT from what I've read. I think the 360 is the most capable though - I think Gears of War will show how good it is. Definitely recommend the 360; run fps, sims and strategy games on your pc and 360 for everything else.

From when i had a 6800GT would say my 360, however its more about the games you wanna play really.

the 360 has turned me completely from PC Gaming

I would go 360 too, even though i love PC gaming. Theres a lot of great titles out now. If you can couple it with a big HDTV even better :D

The 360 has, hands-down the best controller ever for a console. It's also backwards compatible with a lot of titles and for me the Xbox has a stronger back catalogue than the Playstation2, whether or not those games are supported is another matter. Also, you can have the similar powered machine, for cheaper now. Which is a huge benefit.

From what I played of Gears of War a few weeks back at the demo show it was stunning and great fun. If it's continually as good as the 15 minutes I'd played I'd buy a console for it, as it stands the Xbox360 has a lot of quality titles.

I have an Intel Core2Duo @ 3.6ghz, a 6800Ultra and 2gig G.Skill HZ 6400 RAM. Its a cracking system and I can say whole heartedly that the Xbox360, visually destroys it. It also has Xbox Live which leaves the online system used by PC titles standing. It's like Windows 3.1 and Windows Vista in difference.

I've answered this above, but I'll summarise, with the Xbox360 you get Xbox Live, the finest online system run for gaming. You get what many judge to be the finest gamepad used for gaming. You have stunning visuals which leave a 6800 standing (wait till you see Splinter Cell: Double Agent or Gears of War in action!).

I'm no fanboy, I'm getting all 3 consoles (like I always have done) and I can say from my honest opinion that I'd definitely take the Xbox360 every day of the week. It has some top, top class titles. If you're wondering what, I'd say:
  • Dead Rising
  • Burnout Revenge
  • Call of Duty 3
  • Gears of War
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 6
  • Splinter Cell: Double Agent
  • Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
  • Oblivion
  • Tomb Raider: Legend
  • Saints Row
  • Project Gotham Racing 3
Those are just the ones I recommend, many others will add great titles like Kameo and Condemned. This is after just 12 months too. For me, it's the strongest 12 month line-up from a new console I've ever seen.

6800GT may be fine today but it would struggle to run next year games at max settings.

With Xbox 360, you're guaranteed to have great games supporting this console for few years to come. Easy decision for me personally.

I have a 6800GT too, although it's difficult to compare it to a 360 graphically. What's certain is new games coming out on the PC aren't going to run at nice details on it (ET, Crysis, Stalker-whenever it appears) etc.

I love my 360, although I don't use it too much.. That's mainly because there aren't any games I really really love at the moment. I use my PC more for games (actually, all I play is CS:S because It's addictive). I'm so hyped about GoW though and it really looks like the type of game I'll become a huge fan of, so I predict that I'll be spending more of my time on the 360.

Although as a console I think it's fantastic. The look of it and the dashboard just scream quality to me (yes yes so there have been a few heat issues, so what), ultimately I think it's great value for money.

I never play pc games anymore, even when they are half the price of the Xbox equivelent. Ive even got over my FPS console phobia.

Get the 360 m8, it will be the most fun you have had in ages.

I'd say go for the 360 also. It's a great bit of kit, before getting one I definitely preferred PC gaming, but since getting the 360 all i rarely play PC games.

Stop thinking about it..And just go out and buy an xbox360 and some secondhand games out the MM or buy some new ones for about £25each at the right online places..I don't think you will regret it..

You have no more of having to think like this..Will my PC run this new game or will i need to throw another £500 at it to upgrade it..

I must admit I have never been a PC gamer. I did play quake 3 for about 3 years non-stop but I could never walk away from my console roots.

I would honestly recommend getting a 360, I have an x800 gto in my machine, games look damn nice, but I never ever use it.

hmmmmmm I wonder what fps I would get on q3 nowdays.........

I have a 6800GT and a 360. I don't use my PC for games anymore, use to play the odd bit of CS but bored of that now. Also my PC isn't really up to handing graphic running on a 1280 x 1024, likes to over heat

The graphics for something like GoW is amazing and I know my PC couldn't come anywhere close. Plus the joy of sitting infront of a big TV with 5.1 surround sound

I also use my 360 as a Media Exender, so it acts like a media center. Being also to stream Hi Def movies is the icing on the cake.

Cheers peeps.

A bit disappointed to hear the graphics are only a little better than a 6800GT considering how many months i've had it for. As some people have said though it's all about the games coming out for it, there are some titles for the 360 that i want so badly that are never coming out for the PC.

I think i'll possibly get the premium 360 sometime soon/for christmas with GoW and PGR3, still not fully decided yet though.

To be honest, looking at Gears of War (from what I'd seen of the HD videos) It's a big step up from anything we're seen so far graphically (on the 360), so I wouldn't be suprised if the 360's graphics carried on improving.

Gears of War is a huge step up for anything we're seeing currently on any format.

was in the same boat last christmas mate, do i upgrade my 6800GT or get a 360 ?

went for the 360 option and im glad I did, havent played a PC game ( other then Counter Strike ) since.

really is a fantastic console, havent enjoyed gaming so much since the dreamcast.

Oh as for the graphics argument, anyone who says games look pretty much the same must be lookign at some poor 360 setup, I only have it hooked to a 32" HD TV but the graphics kick arse. and when GOW comes out i may just pass a bit of wee :p

I still use the wavebird regularly, and would say it is as good if not better than the 360 controller, the 360 controller is better build quality though (not that the wavebird is worn yet)
If you hold the two together the button layout is quite similar, but wavebird has more ergonomic shoulder buttons and xyx and the start button is in a better position IMO.

The wavebird is good, I just prefer the shape and weight combination of the Xbox360 pad. I really don't like light pads at all (my major concern regarding the Playstation3 and Wii).
