Will my bank account still be active?

Hi, about 2 or even 3 years back I made an account with Natwest, but I never used it at the end, I decided to just stick with my Barclays account. I still have the card, which obviously hasn't expired yet, but I was thinking of using the account regularly now instead of the Barclays one. I'm going to go down tomorrow and ask in the branch, but I just wanted to ask on here to see if anyone actually knows if the account will still be active. When the card got delivered to me, I just never used it.

Thanks.

Ive had bank accounts that I have just had pence in for years and they still send me statements every now and then. So if you had some sort of money in it (ie an opening balance) then they cant really close it without making an effort to give you your money back

Did you activate the card?

Should still be active although you may have to hyave a new card

I don't think I even activated it, because that would mean using it in the first place wouldn't it?

My account with Natwest has never had a single penny in. I hope I don't have to get a new account.

Hi, I'm from Natwest and I can confirm that your account is indeed open. Your balance is £0.00.

Thanks very much. Can I have an overdraft please?

No. Denied.

Nobody here will be able to tell you for sure whether or not your bank account is open. Call them and ask. It's really that simple.

i opened an account with natwest, recieved the card and had regualr statements for a few months, however I never used it and had a balance of £0.00. Now, a few years later I remember about this account and it has now dissapeared with no traces of it, my details are not on their system either, along with my address, the branch I opened it at, etc. How bizarre!

I see, I suppose I'll have to wait until tuesday to find out.

Your card will no longer be active if it has never been used in 2 years. If you want to confirm this, call lost and stolen cards on 08706 000 459 who will be able to do a quick ID check and tell you the card status (most likely "Cancelled - no reason available").
It is also likely that your account has been put into holding by now, and has possibly even been closed. Natwest will do this after a certain period of inactivity, although I don't work with accounts, so I'm not sure on the time scales.
