Will my power supply cope?!

As you can see from my signature I must be running up pretty close to the limit using my current 460W Coolermaster PSU - especially on the 12V rails.

I am considering spending another £30 on an extra HDD to set up in RAID.

Do you think my PSU can cope with all that - particularly as I’m keen on overclocking the processor to around 3.5-3.6ghz (I’ve also got an Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 in there too).

Advice much appreciated! :)

Well hard drives only use about 10W each, however you'll be pushing your luck if you ever decide to do a full system stress test (prime95 + furmark or something like that). I'd suggest your next upgrade would be a slightly higher wattage modular power supply. :p

Yeah I reckon you're right - I ran furmark when I installed the 6950 (pre-flash) and it crashed the system due to heat after a couple mins full burn (90 degrees then locked up) I've been using Afterburner to throttle the fan response semi-automatically since then and its keep the temps down - about 60 degrees full load in Dragon Age 2 DX11 highest settings (x4 aa x16 antiscopic) Full HD - over 1 hour continuous play.

The PSU does make a bit of a whining noise though.

Could anyone recommend something under £70 as a replacement?

Sorry to thread hijack, but I've got a similar question

I'm currently using a 530W bequiet! PSU to power:

955Be
8800GTS
4gb Ram
Asus Mobo
Single Sata Hdd

I've just gone and bought a 5870 to replace the 8800- I'm hoping the PSU is upto the job? Was also thinking about adding an SSD to the mix, am I pushing my luck in terms of power consumption?

i also have a question about power supply , so sorry for also hijacking the thread but it will save opening a new one .

im wondering if my 700w psu will be able to suport a 2nd hd5850 in cf ? , im sure it should be ok but after doing a psu check thing on the net it was saying i was going to need a 1000w psu . this cant be right , can it

A good ~550W PSU should definitely be enough for a system with a 5870. The BeQuiet Pure Power 530 also has enough PCIe connectors for one 5870, so you should be fine.

You can run systems with 5850 CF on good 650W PSUs with four 6-pin PCIe connectors, so it depends on which power supply you actually have. That PSU check thing you mentioned, when it says 1000W, it must be talking about absolutely crap 1000W units.
