Will this mobo (Asus P8Z68-V PRO) run 4x4gb RAM (seemingly not?)

Hi all ******** [FIXED] ********

Back in 2011 i built PC based on an Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 and this mobo:

Asus P8Z68-V PRO Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PRO/

with 2x4gb RAM:
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9)

The mobo has 4 slots for RAM so i assumed i could add another 2x4gb so i just bought some more CMZ8GX3M2A1866C9 RAM which seems identical (apart from the version number 8.22 vs 8.16)

So, i take out my old RAM and replace it with the new - still only 2x4gb but just wanted to check it worked ok before going up to 4x4gb. It worked fine.

However when i put in all 4 bits of RAM nothing worked - i mean no BIOS or nothing.

Worked ok again when i removed RAM from 2 of the slots.

Am i missing something here?

1) Will the mobo even take 4x4gb of this type of RAM? (the mobo specs on the support page says it does, as does the manual on page 10 https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PRO/HelpDesk_Manual/)

2) Is there a BIOS setting i need to change - i looked but didn't see anything that needed changing

3) Anything else i have missed?

Many thanks

got it working

i swapped the ram into different slots to check all 4 slots worked - they did - and i know all 4 ram are ok

then tried again and it just worked - no idea why or what happened the first time
