Will winxp run on a 800mhz pc??

It should run fine, but bumping the ram up will help make it a bit smoother.

Edit:
PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
•128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
•1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*
•Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
•CD-ROM or DVD drive
•Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

Easily, last week we had a server running 600mhz celeron on server 2003 with stupid amount of processes. Granted it did have more memory and a SCSI drive but still. Now out of action due to update server filling the drive to the brim (36gb)

Yeah, it'll run ok

Just keep start programs to a minimum

I had a pii-400 with 256 as a web browsing / music box / server

Just to echo the above - yeah it will work.

But it might be worth using the classic theme (IE make it look like 98). A bit more ram would really help it, but it should chug along.

Yeah it'll run fine. Just make sure you're careful about what is installed and what is booted at startup.

One thing I would definitely do, is disable the themes service.

Runs fine on my Eee which has a celeron-M @ 900MHz downclocked to 650MHz for battery use - aslong as you got plenty of RAM - pref. 1gig - it should work ok.

Will run ok with 512MB, its mainly down to ram and hd speed (i.e. a really old HD is going to be slow).

I have a wee Dell C400 here that I have been running XP on for years. It's a PIII 866Mhz Katmai core and it ran fine with 256Mb of RAM.

That said, there was a noticeable increase in speed once I chucked another 256Mb in there so yeah - will run fine but grab another stick of RAM m8. :)

It'll work fine. I ran Windows XP on a 350MHz PII with 64MB RAM, and it ran surprisingly well :p

I used to have a Dell Inspiron 3800 with a Piii650 and 512MB of memory and that ran XP quite happily. The only issue that it had was disk space as it only had a 30GB drive.

Believe it or not, Windows XP will run on a P233 (That's an old Socket 7 Pentium 233), with 64 MB RAM.

Although it would have probably been possible to manage on such a system back in 2001 when XP was first released, present day Anti Virus software would drag such a system to a crawl.

I'd agree with this somewhat - if the box is going to stay offline and just be used as a word processor or something then I'd avoid AV.
