As per title there basically the same cards with knocked down clocks and shaders would it be possible like recently enabled for the x1900gt to run crossfire through software mode with a slight performance hit? just curious really . Thanks

that would be nice! on the ATI site when the 1900GT was released it stated that u needed a master card (and still does i believe) but, some how somewhere, it magically became possible to xfire the GT without a mastercard, so yes possibly, maybe, hopefully? If ATI dont make the x1900XT xfire without a mastercard, im sure someone will try to edit the GT bios or something to make it

you don't need the bridge for the cards that are lower in the performance range, ie 6600gt's dont need em anymore methinks.

Sorry, thats just the same as lower end ati not needing a cable, Ulfhedjinn was saying SLI only used software - which inrespect to the high end cards isnt true

On the high end models both types need a faster connection than the mobo alone can supply to keep up the date rate

I was under the impression that SLI was done in drivers whereas Crossfire was done on the composite chip the master cards have. If not then I have been sorely misinformed.

We are confusing each other I think

You were correctly informed that SLI require driver profiles usuallly to get each game working at its best ( you can with ATI also but not usually required as far as I know)

I was thinking you were meaning in the actual physical setup between the two cards that SLI didnt need an extra conector to feed the data before it gets produced on the screen

We were talking it seems in completely different regards - appology for the misunderstanding

Ah, I get what you mean now.

Yeah, I was just talking about the way the image is rendered and not how the cards work together on the hardware level. We got our wires crossed (no pun intended.)

As I said, when R600 is out there should be no more need for Crossfire Edition master cards, but there will undoubtedly be some sort of bridge introduced like the SLI bridge as they're supposedly getting rid of the dongle too.
