Will you be opening the door to 'them' tonight?

How's he meant to know that it's not a legitimate caller? I had a mate pop round unexpectedly earlier, would have been a mite rude if I'd ignored the door!

Doubt a man in his 50s is mates with a group of loud chavs who pop round unexpectedly at 9pm but hey I don't know him that well :p

I'm not defending what the morons did but opening the door to tell people he doesn't agree with 'Halloween nonsense' isn't the best idea, it upsets kids and winds up morons

Yep i had a big bowl of sweets ready, only had 3 knocks though so loads left :D

All the kids in my area are between 3-7 ish so i dont see the harm in giving them some sweets that cost me all of £2. Its the 14yo chavs with their 99p masks that can jog on.

We had to knocks on the door, one round 18:00 and the other around 20:00 ... and I ignored both of them.

At least we had some rain around 20:30 which seemed to put off the chavs enough so they didn't come around at 21:30 like last year, hammering on doors and hurling abuse ...

The missus was out walking the dog, so I assumed the door bell ringing was her coming back, only to find out it was (what looked like a bunch of 16-17 year olds dressed in halloween masks).

Fortunately, she had double locked the front door to prevent my youngest from opening it and I couldn't find the key - I had a quick look for the key but they had buggered off a minute later - oh well! :)

An American custom:rolleyes: forced on those who don't want to partake. Ok you don't have to open the door but its still annoying.

Halloween has Irish, British, Celtic and even Roman roots. It's not "American", oh and by the way, Canada celebrates it too. So the correct term but still wrong would be North American.

I done it a few times as a kid, bought some snacks in case but didn't need to answer door, sweets all mine.

But y'know, someone was stabbed and killed where I am (Glasgow) at 6pm on an ordinary city centre street not long ago, it happens fairly regularly around the districts and 'schemes'. Neds/Chavs are rife, and there's a lot of trouble about. The idea of Kids going about in the dark is idiotic.

I was at work during T or T night but did buy £20 worth of sweets per instruction of the girlfriend. It filled up quite a few bowls. She had a few girlfriends round here dressed as goth witches and after 7pm started 'tricking' instead of treating. Not sure how much of the sweets actually made it to the kids and how much the ladies scoffed away. I have a good idea though, despite the protests :p

i dont bother with it all where i live in chav land i doubt any legitimate kids would come around with there parents if i made an effort , just teenagers wanting money not sweats....

when i was young some 20 years ago my mum used to always dress up for haloween and have a bucket full of sweets which was pretty embarassing at the time but looking back it was a nice thing for her to do for the kids.

This kind of events annoy me as people who do partake always accuse those of not partaking of being grumpy and miserable. Just because you like something does not mean I have to to.

I do not like children, not afraid to say it, my friends have them and they know that I will rarely give them the time of day. Does not make me a bad person.

I left my lights and watched the football, if I have some in the house I leave some sweets in a bowl on my doorstep.

What annoys me that I bet a large majority of the people not giving sweets to trick or treaters went trick or treating when they were younger, which means that they were happy enough to take from somebody else but not give back to the community which I find very ironic given the stance on benefits on this forum.

Yes, so?

I would be happy to give back to those who have given to me, but no to those who wouldn't give back to me.

Halloween is great as a kid, but annoying as an adult unless it involves lots of alcohol!

Well I can't remember the last time I was in on a halloween night, another excuse to have a party? Don't mind if I do, though my parents always answer the door, so do I if they come early before I've left, I liked it when I was younger so I'm just returning the favour.

That said if I lived in a crappy area where we were likely to get egged I'd probably just take the eggs because giving chavs stuff for free isn't up high on my list of things to do.
