I have just upgraded to Windows 7 (64) and I am trying to get my LG hd-dvd/bluray drive up and running.

Powerdvd 7ultra seems to work ok with blu rays but just shuts itself down when I try an HD-dvd. This happened before and with all their silly patches.

Is this because I'm running 64bit version of windows or is it because powerdvd is rubbish? I tried running it in xp mode but it didn't like that one bit.

Before I upgraded from XP, powerdvd had stopped working with hd-dvds but I hadn't bothered to try reinstalling and reverting to an earlier version.

I'm using the LG OEM versions too, probably with the same drive as you. Install the software from disc, open PDVD and it'll probably say there's an update available. Download and install the update, then try to play a blu-ray or HD-DVD and see what happens. I'd try a Blu-Ray first in case the HD-DVDs are screwing with it.

I have that drive and HD-DVDs will work with the powerdvd that came with the drive, unfortunately a lot of new Blurays wont work unless you upgrade and then this stops the HD-DVDs working.

I ended up moving to TMT3 which just works (and has the added benefit of integrating seemlessly into WMC0.

2 months later and I install anydvd after getting fed up with not being able to play hddvds and now they are working! Strange how adding this program makes my discs work in powerdvd.
