Windows 7 Lowering Volume Of Its Own Accord

Hey chaps and chapesses,

Weird problem going on here. Windows 7 is randomly, for periods of random duration, lowering the volume of sound coming out of both my on-board *and* PCI sound cards (external USB one seems fine). So, I could be listening to stuff on youtube, or playing starcraft, and it'll suddenly lower. Then maybe a few seconds, or a few minutes, will pass, and it'll come back.

I'm running a Core2 Duo E6600, on an Asus P5B. State of the art about 5 years ago ;) Ran perfectly fine under WinXP for those five years, but since 7 came along, I've had this volume issue, which is driving me nuts.

It's *not* the "automatically lower volume when communication is detected" thing, or at the very least, that's set to "Do Nothing", so it shouldn't be. And I've unset/set it several times.

Anyone experienced similar, or have any ideas?

Thanks :)

No idea, but the first thing I'd check is whether it's actually changing your software volume level - you'll then know if it's W7 screwing you around or whether maybe it's a hardware issue.
