Unless you will be joining an Active Directory Domain environment, and want the associated feature set and tools for administering and being managed by said environment, then Home Premium is fine for every home user.

Again Home Premium for both you and the family member. Don't fool yourself into thinking Professional or Ultimate is better unless you actually need any of the features, then use the money you saved for something you'll actually benefit from.

As for delivery dates ask in the customer service forum or send a webnote.

XP mode isn't that great, all it does is integrate Virtual PC a little into the Windows UI. Beyond that it just felt like a normal virtual machine, and there's better virtualisation software out there.

Whilst this is true, it does give you the XP license as part of the package. Using a 3rd party virtualization solution would involve owning a seperate XP license.

hmm lot to think about i know that 16gig or ram is by far enough now but i remember the amount of times maximum ram has always anoyed me and would make like the posibilty in the future to go should i need to. Tho i think it will be a long long time before 16gig of ram is to little and by then surly a new op system would be out. Also the fact of getting xp with the higher 1s is also a lot to tihnk about. So yes will think which 1 to get.

Whats the footprint in disk size from Ultimate to Home Premium? As i have a 120GH SSD, and at the moment im using Ultimate, which seems to take up in the region of 25-30GBs!??, so hopefully HP wont take up anywhere near as much?

Was Ultimate the only version you could get, for the trial period?

I've heard that with a retail copy of Windows 7 you get a 32 bit and 64 bit key. Does this mean I can use the 64 bit key on my desktop and the 32 bit one on my netbook or do I need to buy two copies?

My house is currently expecting 6 copies :o:D. Fortunately most were bought at the £50 pre-order price, and the rest at the £65.99 price :D.

Well the netbook is a new addition to the house hold. I did pick up two licenses originally, but now I'm giving my laptop to my mum she'll be needing that license. Hmm!

Probably, but never mind :). When we pre-ordered initially the family pack was just rumoured I think, and I can't be bothered going through the hassle now of cancelling.
