I have set it up in control panel so that win 7 only sleeps with an idle drive even when downloading files windows goes to sleep after 15 mins I want to to go to sleep but not when I'm downloading files

I using Firefox 3.5 to download.

Was downloading a 6 gig file yesterday and it was at 4 gig when i left my PC come back and the thing is in sleep mode boot back up and the download can't resume. I'm on a 30 gig per month contract so can't afford this to be happening. :(

Have a look at the power options and customize as required. If it's a laptop then you also need to alter the behaviour when the lid is shut as that by default will put the laptop into suspend.

lol toon nope it was a legit file the star trek online. I tried it again and again it slept.

I also this afternoon was updating LOTRO game and it still went to sleep during update :(

I'll have a fiddle with the settings. Not a laptop and I've even choosen not to sleep during disk activity. I'm wondering what disk it's checking though as I have 2 drives.

Go to control panel > Power Options and create a custom profile.

Then just switch to the profile when you leave your pc downloading at night. When you wake up in the morning, change it back to "Balanced" or whatever.

maybe get a download manager then with resume support, i cant remember if its free still but have a look at flashget, it used to be quicker at downloads and you can pause resume them.
