**WINDOWS 8 NOW AVAILABLE FROM OCUK (FREE SHIPPING)!!**

Personally I can't see any reason to upgrade. 50 quids stays in pocket to work in more reasonable way in the future ;-)

This is what I thought about Windows 7. Still ended up getting it though. Although partly as I wanted 64-bit OS and 64-bit WinXP wasn't the best...

Once you have installed windows 8 just do a backup and keep it as a base install. No need to install windows 7 then !

No interest in Windows 8. Windows 7 is fine.

I thought this about Windows Vista while running Windows XP. I'd probably still be running XP if it wasn't for the 64-bit thing. Oh and DirectX 11.

Not sure what Win8 offers over Win7 that'll tempt/'force' me to move. Think I'd prefer a full retail copy over an Upgrade or OEM version though.

erm ....hasn't this been floated at around £20 ?

no chance in hell i'm touching it with a bargepoll at these prices ... even if this is gerneral price .. was worth a put at a 2ndpc build to see what teh fuss was about , but no chance i want it now ... teh slating it getting .... i'll avoid

not knocking ocuk btw :)

With Win7 upgrade you could just install it, then upgrade it over itself. I didn't need to but that's how it was. There's not much difference for gamer's with Windows 8 so I won't be getting it.

Seems a bit stupid that it costs the same amount of money to go from Windows 8 > Windows 8 Pro that it does for XP/Vista/Windows 7 > Windows 8 Pro.

Pricing fail,Microsoft are asking too much imo for those who already have windows 7.

I mean come on,We all know Windows 8 is essentially Windows 7 but with a different Theme/style and maybe a few performance increases...not worth £49.

Well I was contemplating a full retail version for a HTPC build if they had a good preorder discount (like they did for Win7), but the price is way to steep for the OEM copy for me. I think I'll put the RTM version on it for a few months while I sort a linux alternative or jump back to my Retail Win7 licence which should be freed up again by then. Can't believe they are dropping the full retail versions with 8, I understand why they don't need them in most retail outlets - but I would have thought having them at least available somewhere would have made a bit of sense. Oh well that'll teach me for getting my hopes up even slightly.

Gibbo could you hopefully get these questions answered by MS:

- can the licenses of older OSes (XP, vista, even win 7) be upgraded, and windows 8 installed without having to first install the older OS?

- If not, if a user already has Windows 7 installed but wishes to upgrade an older license for XP or Vista, will they have to first reinstall the older OS in order to upgrade the older key instead of Win 7?

- Can windows 8 OEM be reactivated on hardware upgrades like a new Motherboard and / or disk drives? Will this still require telephone verification everytime a self builder wishes to upgrade their PC?

Too rich for my blood. Only interested if I can get my entire home (5PC's) onto the same OS for £100, or less. I've got retail copies of Vista Utimate, Windows 7 Ultimate and Home as well as Windows Server 2008 - Why does MS shoot themselves in the foot like this at a time of recession. This will be a bigger flow than Vista because for it to be useful, you have to have a touch screen, otherwise it's a culture shock to use.

And why they insist on a new OS = a new front end is beyond me. Surely the OS is the BACK END/Engine! The GUI is just the way to access it!

Bring back the VERY good and WORKING menus of Win 7, plus the the Office 2003 layout option, and I'll buy. Until then I'm sticking on 7 etc plus Office 2007 until I cannot use it any more. I'd sooner spend my pennies on better hardware that can drive the OS faster than invest in Microsoft's dalliance in social media networking.

MS is heading in the direction of Sony and Nokia. At least Sony have a diverse product portfolio covering multiple categories...
