Ive just spend the last day installing drivers and tweaking the system, im now installing the basics like winzip, av software etc and im allready at 5.5 gb

Is there any software out there that i can just use to make an image some how and burn to dvd so if i buy a new hard drive for example i can just boot from a dvd and reinstall my images?

Sort of like a home made system restore disk i suppose?

Cheers guys

norton ghost can do what you're asking too :) (i usually hate symantec software, but ghost is pretty good)

Is it what you use?

I've tried quite a few makes of backup/recovery software not limited to but, including Norton Ghost,Powerquest V2i and Dantz retrospect.
My personal favourite is True Image, Its fast, easy to use, reliable and allows you to easily restore a single file from an image if you need to.

Right ive started the backup process, can one just ask how you restore it>? Just so i know in the future?

I may just find a old hard drive and see if i can install it on there to be safe!

Check the image after you've made it to make sure it's ok. I tried to restore an image without checking it first, which turned out to be invalid and I lost everything :(

There should be an option in acronis called "Acronis Startup Recovery Manager". This makes a bootable partition to load acronis before windows if you press F11 during startup. Or you can boot from the acronis CD.

Burn a boot disk using True Image using the 'Create rescue media' I think they call it. This will enable you to recover the system even if windows or true image wont start due to say complete hard drive failure etc.
The safest place to store the Image is either an external or seperate hard drive from the one your making an image of or, Burn it onto DVD. The latest version of TI will allow you to burn direct to DVD.

So i need to burn a boot disk and a set of dvds to cover my os install?

Im using Ritek G05's but keep getting errors when checking, ive never had any coasters before with this media, any ideas?

I'd recommend that you burn a rescue boot disk (CD). The image can be stored on a hard drive or DVD's. My OS hard drive has 8GB on it and the image fits comfortably on a single DVD-r.
