Windows Vista Saying Drive Failing ?

Should I be listening to this warning or does the OS not have a clue what its talking about ?

How does an OS know if a drive is failing ?

What version of Vista are you using? I know that Ultimate has a feature that tells you when a hardware component is on the way out.

I don't know for sure but all I can think of is you probaly have the smart capability option turned on in the bios (Self Monitoring Analysis And Reporting Technology) which allows programs to monitor hard drives and perharps vista is using that.
I would go on the manufacturer's website for your drive and download/run their tool to be sure.

Well I started getting a Blue screen with a Crash Dump error so I guess its safe to say the drive is fubard.

Good thing it wasnt needed as I just wanted to see what vista was like so used a spare drive.

Hopefully its under warranty.

Its a Samsung SP1203N.
