i recently built a new system but it appears my BIOS requires updating, my board is MSI K8N nforce 4 ultra and i cannot clock beyond 205mhz in the BIOS, i read review about a similar problem while trying to overclock on these boards and it needs BIOS flash, i have never flashed in my life and i have no idea how to do it normally, but i understand there is a program called 'winflash' that'll let me flash via windows, is this program safe and will it work? thanks in advance

I've used it a few times on my DFI SLI-DR and never had any problems with it, it's easier than booting up into DOS and flashing it that way.

Used it many a time here, it works like a charm :)

Remember that once you've flashed your bios and reset your computer, always load optimized defaults when you go into the bios, then plumb in your new values.

what should be blue? DMI block, mainblock, bootblock? will this board overclock much, my processor is athlon 64 3200+ venice revision DH-E6, what sort of overclock would i get with that processor in this board with stock AMD cooling?

right, that didn't seem to do much, used the flashing utility, flashed to BIOS that supposidly removed these overclocking problems and WHAM! still won't clock past around 2150Mhz on processor which is 215Mhz HT, anyone got any idea what could be causing this, i would think my processor would clock a lot higher than this...

Im sure it would be good to use this Winflash as I dont like the idea of booting into DOS myself, but with my ASrock K7S8X mobo it says I have to use there own AS Flash which is a DOS only BIOS update. Sure cant wait to get my own machine back, but when I do I will be temped to BIOS flash that one as well, as all the new BIOS versions I have never bothered to use.

Is it worthwhile BIOS flashing when a new version is released?

i dunno, its not really worth flashing a BIOS unless it fixes an issue, in my MSI K8N the issue is limited to no overclockability on a board that is supposed to be a overclocking board, so unless theres a problem i would say don't bother flashing
