Winter tyres

Can't be bothered, I live on main roads, but if it gets too bad I will take the day off.
But snow generally doesn't last for just a day. The last couple of years the roads were bad for 2-3 weeks. I still had some days of due to work being shut and I had winter tires. I could still go out sledging up the downs and go food shopping etc in my car whilst nearly everyone else in my street was stranded.

The last couple of years have been bad around here. And there forecasting possibly a bad winter again this year!?

Seconding someone above's recommendation for Conti Winter Contacts. Got some TS830s last year and the grip was incredible. Never once got stuck last year up here in Aberdeen/shire/Shetland and I passed many people who had given up trying to move up a simple slope.

Will do, should be putting them on early November

Sounds good, it amazes me how some people think or winter "dry roads" are the same as tested as opposed to an indicator of why not to use winter tyres all year round.

They ignore the temperature, salt deposits including clay, they just use the tests as an indication of how their opinion is backed up. I have used winter tyres in the past but won't this year as my mileage doesnt warrant keeping 2 sets of wheels when I can take the bus or cycle instead.

Well after getting stuck last year in the central belt and this year driving about 4 hours a day I'm going to get some winter tyres. Was checking out the TS830s and it seems that Kwik-fit have the best fitted price at the moment.

Just figured out they've got 25% off all tyres - that probably explains it. not my normal choice but we have one branch near us which appear vaguely competent.

I just bought 4 Goodyear UltraGrip 8s from http://www.bestbuytyres.co.uk fitted at my local Merit tyre station and they are £13 cheaper than the same tyre at Kwik-Fit. They don't have the Conti 830s but seem to be doing better in the reviews anyway.
