Hey guys, sorry to post such a boring topic, but I'm completely stumped here.

My computer started locking up a bit ages ago, freezing (the mouse as well) for a few seconds (with 0% CPU usage), so I ran msconfig and switched to diagnostic start up, and the symptoms went away. Things worked for a few months, then the other day I decided that was bad practice and went back to normal mode. Shortly afterwards the problems came back, it would lock up loading a program (I could just about shut it down), I tried a restart, then when I clicked my username it would not get past this screen... After a few more restarts it got worse (same happened in safe mode), and now it gets to the welcome screen, but the mouse and keyboard don't work. It's not a freeze, because the screensaver comes up after a while... can't even turn caps lock on and off...

I don't really know where to go from here, could it be hardware? It seems like it's mostly a software thing, kinda like USB has killed itself (the mouse/keyboard does work in Asus Gate thing...)

Any pointers please? I'm lost, and I have deadlines to meet! aarrgh

Ok, well, I did a repair install and that's pretty much fixed the damage that windows did to itself, though I still suspect there's a hardware problem lurking beneath somewhere... Oh well.
