Hey guys,

I went round to help a mate tonight setup his new printer, the HP L7780. We set it up wired first of all with the supplied cat5 but he wanted it wireless through his HP laptop. The wireless was easy to configure, but we just can’t get it to print? We can see the printer on the network and the router (DG834G) assigns it an ip etc, but when you go to print the printer just makes a load of the usual noises but fails to deliver any print outs!

After about 40 seconds the printer stops its noises and a print error message appears on the laptop. The printers display continues to claim the printer is printing until you have to physically stop it yourself…

When you hook up the wired cable to the router it prints wireless straight away? So I reckon there’s a problem between the laptop and the router when the wireless connection is being used, thing is, I’m all out of ideas :(

I spent an hour today just trying to get this printer up and running in wireless. Now I need some expert advice!

Cheers,

SW.

I had something similar at work and it was because it was trying to print letter size prints.
for some reason wireless wasn't auto selecting the correct paper tray but hard wired it was and this was the same for 8 computers on this network. I don't know the printer you are using but forcing the one i was using to print for the tray with A4 size paper solved it.

Yeah that’s interesting actually, I remember the paper size saying 'Letter' so I changed it to A4. I didn't do anything to the tray selection tho? I know he's only got one physically installed.

Can you remember how you did it? Also are we both talking about HP :D

No, i'm talking about a xerox [SIZE=-1]Phaser 8400 Colour but it just sounds very simular.
I had the advantage of knowing it wasn't the wifi cause there were other printers on the network and there were working. Spent hours looking for driver updates and so on.

Just one other thing, check there isn't a firewall built into the router being over paranoid and not letting the printer have full coms.
