I currently have two Xbox 360 wireless controllers that came with my console last November. I borrowed a wired controller from a friend for use on my PC a few weeks back aand preferred it to the K+M combo in the games that accept 360 controllers.

I am on the vergeof buying one of Microsoft's Xbox 360 Wireless Controller Recievers for Windows as I am reluctant to buy a third controller and I prefer the weight of the wireless anyway...and a receiver is the same price as a wired on fleabay also.

So just before I buy, I just need to know if the receiver will work ok with my standard 360 wireless controllers for gaming on PC? And I'm guessing I'll require drivers from Microsoft's website?

Cheers.

It should auto download the drivers, but the controller will always auto turn on your actual xbox remote unless you power down at the mains.

Its really much easier to play with a wired pad just for the PC.

But is just the standard Xbox 360 controller going to work ok with the reciever? I'm not sure if I need one that is labelled as for XP/Vista or are my normal ones fine?

Normal ones work fine, very good price on these on a high street shop with a pad. Infact I found it cheaper to buy with the pad rather than without.

You have to sync it to the wireless receiver and iirc it won't turn on the 360 without re syncing.

All 360 wireless pads are identical.

If you don't want a dedicated "PC" controller, you'll need to keep re-syncing between the XBox and PC when you wish to use it on the other. And, if it's synced to the XBox, it'll automatically turn on the XBox when you switch the pad on.

Other than that - no problems whatsoever, and as others have said, it's often cheaper overall to buy the receiver + pad combo anyway!

I'd say use a wired pad with a PC to avoid the need for another set of batteries, cheaper too.

You have to sync it to the wireless receiver and iirc it won't turn on the 360 without re syncing.

Correct.. I have both in clos proximity. When i turn on my PC Wireless pad it DOES NOT turn on my 360.. If i want to use two pads on the 360, i have to re-sync it by presssing the sync button on the 360 and vice versa wireless receiver

The only drawback is you cannot turn off the controller when using on a pc. It stays on for a while (maybe 15mins) before shutting itself down... Hardly a problem if you use rechargeables, but a niggling concern if you let little things like that bother you.

oddly it was chaper to buy the PC 360 pad with PC gubbins than the 360 pad on its own. Even if you only want a 360 pad you might as well get the set as its cheaper and the pads are identical.
