Gaming at 1680x1050 and thinking about upgrading the graphic setup with preference for a single solution, what do you think would be a wise cost/performance upgrade?

Well I don't have a limit with the budget which does not mean that I'm keen to spent thousands of pounds. My idea is to get rid of the SLI setup, at least for the moment to improve temps in my case, I live at Spain and it's beggining to be hot. And also having in mind that my resolution is not going to change so I don't really need 295 or similar setups. Maybe a GTX 275 would be a good decision, I'm not too much for the Atis to be honest

A 260 for what I've been reading would be pretty much as my SLI so I will tend to look for something with a bit more longevity and power but not too much

Nothing will provide more longevity than the ones listed here.

You will get similar performance to what you have with 4890, 4870 (1GB versions) and GTX 260,275 and 280/285.

285 is too expensive and not worth the premium in performance. So, you are left with the other parts. ATi is usually better value, but seeing as you dont want that go with 260 or simply wait until he proper next gen.

The issue here isn't so much performance just the heat. As someone said the set up you have is quite a beast so I perhaps I was wrong to suggest the 280 though the 280 and most modern single cards should kick out less heat than a dual set up like you currently have. So you 'may' get a little less performance in some games but the heat issue will be resolved. I understand that the 260's run quite cool, perhaps you could sli those.

If you're going 260 SLI you may as well get two separate cards, you'll get pretty much the same (or better) performance than the GTX295 and you'll save yourself a wedge as well. :)
