They wont be using keyloggers, they will just have detailed logs of internet history. Everything will basically be routed through their firewall, which will be taking notes of everything.
We used to use smoothwall at work, it was pretty good, would have been better if the school I worked for werent so tight and put it on a decent computer, and they wondered why their internet slowed down from time to time -_-

We use a proxy at work, but we never check it unless the internet becomes ridiculously slow.
We use it more for throttling so a single user doesn't use the entire measly 2Mb leased line we have.

Not a good idea IMO, installing programs to purposely circumvent works' IT protocol will have more chance getting you fired than go on the net a bit too much.
Besides, that is if he has rights to install programs, I can't even right click on my clock in the corner in windows.

While I have almost complete run of my PC at work (cant change wallpaper, or do adminy type things) our Admin girl doesn't even have access to the calculator!
yeah install software to a works machine just to be 100% sure you get the sack.
but when it comes time to downsizing or if there's ever a problem with him it's a quick and easy dismissal instead of a redundancy and a payout.

Most places won't be doing more than logging URLs and most places won't consider it as gross misconduct unless your viewing something inappropriate or its interferring with your work.
Where I work accessing external sites is a disciplinary (due to the disruption a virus, etc. would cause) using company computers/connection but they are fine if you use your own laptop/connection or phone.

Wouldn't need to be a proxy either. Many firewalls have the facility to log URLs or at the very least DNS lookups.

I do IT and have pulled reports - you will and usually are tracked. If a company of 200_ is not monitoring this then they will be as cases will arise.
Usually reports are generated when an employee is not pulling their weight and doing there job. If you are delivering results then you should not have anything to worry about.
If you want to cover your tracks set your home system up to accept RDP connections then just RDP into it and surf on your home machine via RDP. I do this as I know the watchers are watching me

If your machine is going through a proxy server then yes. Chances are you will be going through one so all browsing activity is logged
You'll know this is the case because if you open IE settings, Connection > LAN settings, the option will be greyed out because it's set via group policy. If you can click it and untick the box to use a proxy then...:O

I spent nearly an entire summer reading the Guardian for about 4 hours a day, rather than working. The admins noticed it but didn't say anything about it - I still did all the work expected of me. It depends on whether your local network flunkies are power-tripping purists or laidback lukes (I was working for Apple, who you'd think would be pretty strict).

Every website on the entire internet blocked apart from their own. I hated that place. Two weeks and I was out.
