Each day at work we receive mails stating if we dont follow certain procedures "the disciplinary procedure will be enforced" or "if you don't do this you will get disciplined" lol

It's used for all sorts from security issues to not emptying the bins

Now I was wondering is this allowed, does it fall into harrassment at work or something? Just seems a bit wrong to me.

If it's covered by the policy and applied equally and fairly, then it's fine and not harrassment. It's just making everyone aware of the consequences of not completing expected activities.

However, I would hope that most employers only use the disciplinary policy after other, less harsh requests to do the same thing have failed to achieve the desired result.

Better that than being left to guess what the policies are and finding yourself sacked for forgetting something you got told on your first day in the job 2 years ago.

I'm currently on an internal training course which lasts several years, so I do lots of time in the office and some time on this course. The guy who runs the course is brilliant, very witty but really dry with it. A few years back, when he was getting all his new trainees to sign their training contracts he handed them out and said "Hello, welcome to $FIRM, here's how you can be sacked."

malef!c you've defo hit the nail on the head. Their looking to get rid of a few peeps. They were talking about making a few redundant a few weeks back and are now starting to push on this disciplinary thing.

I was just unsure asto whether they can actually threaten you with disciplinary action.

If they make people redundant, they will have to pay something to those people.

If people choose to leave, they don't have to pay those people anything.

If they make the workplace unpleasant, it will encourage people to leave.

If they do it for everyone, it isn't constructive dismissal, or it would at least be very hard to make a case that it is.

Payroll costs are to be treated like corruption from Satan!

There's also plenty of evidence that managers are exempt from the rules and are free from blame and their own policies and disciplinary processes - if you look hard enough. Get copies of policies and have a look through the wording.
The paperless office will never happen as everyone has to get things in writing for evidence due to blame cultures that *apparently* dont exist...
Any one else heard HR being labelled Human Remains as opposed to Resources?

Our HR people are pretty good. Always helpful, always friendly and do their best to sort out any issues you may have. Benefits of working for a company that realises the most important asset they have are their staff.
