Brilliant vid.

I love how you can see the density changing over a period of time and as night falls (you can see the shadow) and as dawn starts. Rather interesting.

Did anybody else see some very fast moving planes around the north pole?

It's still there, I haven't deleted it. Just checked on my wife's pc, she's hasn't got a Flickr account and I could see it OK

FWIW, this can't have been "taken" by a satellite, since it would have to be surrounding the planet to be able to see everything.

I would imagine that's due to the map projection (Mercator by the looks of it).

Yup, map projection, you are travelling shorter distances flying east or west as you near the poles, thus on the animation it looks like they are travelling very quickly.

Europe is completely saturated by the looks of it, America doesn't seem that busy by comparison.

I'm really surprised how much the traffic drops off over night. I'd always thought of the major population centres as constantly busy. Guess people do sleep.
