Both organisations have their share of pro players.
Afraid not, the BDO is strictly Amateur.
Many BDO players earn enough on tour to make it their professional occupation. Hankey, Waites, Adams and more.
Again, afraid not. Realistically It actually costs more to go on tour than you could earn in the BDO tour. The only reason Adams isn't a PDC player is because hes scared of being a little fish in a big pond. Hanky isn't good enough and Waites is a carpenter full time, he has an occupation to fund his darts, regardless he will be in the PDC after lakeside.
The PDC probably has more top players, but lets not forget the fact that the last competition where both organisations participated in (world grand prix) was won by a BDO player, who beat PDC number 2 James Wade in the final.
The PDC has ALL the top players. Do you not understand how the system works? You're an amateur in the BDO until you're good enough to become
professional and get offered a contract into the PDC. As i said, Waites will be a PDC player after Lakeside.
The prize also obviously attracts the better BDO players to the PDC.
Ye because it actually takes money out of your pocket to play in the BDO on tour as a top
amateur. The only way to make money in the BDO is to win home tournaments such as lakeside and the masters. Oh and of course, sponsorship.
There is a reason why the checkout percentages and 3 dart averages are lower for top players in the BDO and it may surprise you.
The reason is simply the board. PDC use a Unicorn board which has an ultra thin wire, thereby leaving far more space in the trebles than the BDO board, the Winmau Blade. The scoring is honestly down to that. The board.
The Blade 4 is a far better board than a Eclipse pro. I'm sorry. The wires on a Blade are as thin as an eclipes pro and the glue doesn't come out through the cisel after about 10 games...
The PDC is better purely because they've skimmed the best amateurs off the top of the BDO, nothing more, nothing less.
