Mate that's strange, I downloaded the WoW client and got the new cataclysm downloader, rather than the old wotlk one. Doubt there's much difference in download speeds between the two thosnip
The installer Tome.MPQ is the last 100Mb you need.
Head over to here: http://www.wowwiki.com/Patch_mirrors
You want: 3.3.x → 4.0.1.12911 Final Stage-4 (~72 MiB)
Pick any of the EU PC mirrors. It may take a couple to find one that gives you decent speeds/you can download without queueing, and so on. I found the sourcearchive one to be extremely quick just now.
Once you have the zip, close the blizzard updater, extract it into the update folder in WoW and start the updater again, it shouldn't need anything else.
Plus, the patch includes a new updater that works differently, so hopefully the problem you're having won't stick around with the new patcher. Because after this patch there's another 1.6Gb patch, and that isn't available as a seperate download yet, it has to be done through their new patcher. Good luck!![]()

Personally, the first thing I would do is uncheck the port options in your virtual servers tab of the router setup.
It won't make a difference to downloading files of the Internet.
The WoW downloader uses the bittorrent protocol, so setting up port forwarding in virtual servers is pretty much a requirement for it to work reliably.
If he's turned peer-to-peer downloads off though it doesn't really matter.
