World Of Warcraft's Fourth Expansion

Maybe it's just a graphics overhaul with little new content.

Sadly, as much as I enjoyed WoW, I can't commit the time any more to get back into it. Even when I was 10 hours a day, and before WOTLK, the amount of content was dizzying. I knew there was loads of stuff I was never going to get to see before it got rendered obsolete by the next expansion.

If Cataclysm doesn't have me thinking about a reroll (it doesn't), then I don't think any expansion will. Unless they release a pre-TBC "WoW Classic" free client.

Even though WoTLK has the two hardest encounters which you may or may not have done. Nobody except those wearing rose-tinted nostalgic sunglasses want to go back to farming resist gear for Nature, Fire and Frost or making sure to get frost wands etc.

Throwing in a few hard encounters doesnt make for a challanging expansion. All in all wotlk is far easier than TBC and is generally catering for 10 year olds.

But really what really difficult encounters were there in TBC? Most people never did Karazhan before the first nerf, Maggy and Gruul were easy, especially when you had dodge-capped rogues for Gruul. SSC was the first real difficult one with two encounters that made you think and TK only really Kael was too hard. From there yeah TBC had the hard bosses but when you look at it what has WoTLK had.

OS3D, it was hard. Ulduar, it was hard. You can complain that some bosses were easy, but so was Loot Reaver etc, so in Ulduar you had AoC, Freya, Mimiron, FL, Yogg and Algalon which were all challenging with their HMs pre-nerfs. You had nifty achievements to try to get if you wanted to spice it up too.

ToC, like it or not the HM was hard for 2-3 of the bosses and you needed skill. ICC, LDW is unforgiving, DBS was difficult, PP was awfully awful and Sindragosa consumed our souls ten billion times, not to mention LK who melted faces very often.

Do I however think that the 30% was introduced too early, yes. It shouldn't have been introduced until 4.03. However you can't say WoTLK has catered to casuals too much, yes more people see raid content but thats not a bad thing. The encounters are much more interesting and 10m and 25m are both viable so not much more I can ask for.

Maulgar and Gruul were stupidly hard with people in blues and some Kara gear tbh.

Can't comment on the rest as I quite when Sunwell was released, but even like Kael and Vashj were rather tricky.

Sunwell Plateau says hi, they didn't call it the destroyer of guilds for nothing.

WOTLK was never particularly difficult, the only real encounters that were soul destroying were Mimiron 25 HM (pre-nerf), Yogg 25 +0 and LK 25 HC.

It has been pretty common knowledge for a long time that they dedicate different teams to their expansions and that they usually plan at least two in advance. Which means that in TBC they were beginning work on Cataclysm. And in WotLK they would be working on the fourth.

As much as I have had issues with WoW and quit during TBC, I still do not understand people who do nothing but cry and moan about it when they have no vested interest in the game. It is not as if these forums are flowing over with WoW people saying that everything else is crap; I just do not understand the response.

Reading comprehension says hi.

So Vashj, KT and onwards... Hyjal, BT and SWP...

I don't feel WotLK was that hard at all. Granted I quit when I killed LK heroic about 6 months ago so have not tried all the achievements in Icecrown Citadel. C'thun was probably the hardest boss I have done (a bit late starting on MC BWL but did C'thun when it was still new and damn that was hard. Oh and SWP that was very hard infact we didn't kill the end boss until they nerfed it. The only thing that made LK feel hard was limited attempts.

But yeah back to OP. This is blizzard they are constantly working ahead, once cataclysm goes live they will continue working on content patches (usually 2-3 ahead while at the same time starting to work on the next expansion, and will have a list of ideas much further ahead. Chances are even if Emerald dream is not the next expansion they have done concept work on it allready and many other possible expansions.

Someone noted that they thought cataclysm will only be half an expansion so they can release a new expansion a few months later, that would be incredibly unlikely. Even though I stopped playing wow and did not get in SC2 much blizzard know how to ram their games full with a very high production quality. I am pretty sure they will continue on the same trend, 2,3 or 4 major content updates in cataclysm with the next expansion around 1 and a half years away.

Is Darkfall still free? I'm too lazy to google it :p

Wasn't it a huge flop on release? Never heard anything about it after that. It's still going, then?

Theirs a free trial, but it's never been free.

It was full on release, had a full server, then people left and transfered to the NA server so now it's populated, but could be better.

things are picking up though, more people are subscribing but it will take a while to take off. it's like Eve in some ways, it's quite hard to get past the initial fact your dumped in a world with no help. but it's not exactly hard to figure it out and ask other players.

Still going strong, strong subscriber base. we're on our 3rd free expansion, they're hiring more people. starting a motion capture studio etc.

some nice articles in there.

Would supprise me more if they wern't but then it is a bit odd announcing it just before this latest one goes live.

Sure they are milking an expeansion but WoW took years to make and can't be that bad or otherwise someone would make suomething better but no one can.

Imho it is a bit long in the tooth now and I would like it to die so something new can come along but tbh it needs something amazing to come along and kill WoW. don't blame WoW. blame crappy MMO makers.

As much as WoW annoys me it is top for a reason, most new MMOs have not been as good.
