I dont actually agree with that, I think quite a lot of people can make something better, whats stopping them from doing so though is the powers that be in their suits. Much of WoWs enormous financial success (what is it they make on it, £100 million every month? not bad for just a video game) is due to the game appealing to the lowest common denominator, low spec requirements, easy to play, wide appeal with the youth.

IMO a better MMO would not necessarily have those features and would get less profit even though its a better game, less $$$ isnt what interests the powers that be , more $$$ is...so they sit in their ivory towers and try to replicate WoW for the $$$ rather than try to advance the genre. So I dont think its a case that devs cant, more than devs arent allowed to.
 
I'm not sure why people are surprised there'll be a fourth expansion - it's not like they can do nothing and let the game go stagnant is it? Everquest, a major influence on WoW, is on something like expansion 17 now.

Tried doing him not long after Ulduar came out in a 20 man raid of level 80's (Overkill, but whatever). Got to him and said 'Right guys, avoid the GIANT LASER BEAMS, and we should be fine.' After he first fired his laser there were 5 of us left. I was sad.

Anyway, in my limited knowledge of WoW lore emerald dream/nightmare would make sense.

There is probably a lot of truth in that aswell but that's what we get for being ahead of the cruve and getting into MMOs before their time. We can only hope that now everyone has played WoW they are now in a similar position to us and want something new also.

Same with consoles and FPS/RTS games kind of thing. Did all that 10 years ago on PC and only now is the "mainstream" catching up on consoles.

But lets face it, while do enjoy the more snadboxy elements of older MMOS and hate the whole alliance vs horde thing it does a lot of stuff right and is very well made but I deffnetly agree it is missing a lot of cool features that are common in older games. Still I have 2 Eve accounts for MMO mega PVP hardcoreness

tbh my suprise is also very limited. I heard a long time ago that they're planning to go up to lvl100, and some bloke in an office probably has the entire wow timeline on his wall. The biggest clue to me about how far they're planning ahead is the new expansion. All previous expansions gave 10 levels, this one gives 5. So assuming they're still reaching for 100 as the end point they're now slimming the levels per expansion down to fit more expansion in.

Mostly? people trying to convince themselves not to re-sub.

The most militant WoW haters are ex addicts, just like the ones who hate smokers the most tend to be those who just quit a 60 a day habbit.

"lolwow" is the response mostly given by those who never play.
 
Didn't they state pretty soon after launch that WoW will have about 10 years worth of expansions?

I doubt they expected it to be such a success, so this was probably quickly revised to 150,00 years - about the same length of time Bobby Kotick has been alive, sustained by the blood of newborn babies.

This.

A large majority of the playerbase has killed LK. A decent majority even lk hero.

Pre nerf most guilds could never kill kael or vashj even my old guild struggled and we were no4 on server. Only reason most people got onto mh was by them removing kill requirement of kael and vashj.

Now within weeks of release most content is fully cleared. Fact.

I don't play anymore though despite the temptation :D

A majority would imply a larger portion than not. I highly doubt over 50% of the player base have killed LK heroic, I would put a few quid on saying over 50% haven't killed him on normal.
 
I havent killed LK yet and i spend a fair amount of time playing WoW. Our guild hasnt downed LK in 10man or 25 man modes, individual members have only by joining other raids.

I would say that I am am fairly typical WoW player in a fairly typical guild and would be astonished if 50% of the people on Grim Batol have killed LK. I think its way less

WotLK had 1000 new quests in it, Cataclysm has 3,500, so despite being only 5 levels its by far the largest expansion they have done so far.

They also said a couple of times at blizzcon that they arent happy that Outlands and Northrend are now out of sync timeline with the rest of the game and it is something they are going to fix. So expect a refresh of outlands and northrend for the next expansion ;)
 
well im literally going to do 1-60 in cata to death with 4 different chars.

im hoping by the time i have done that the refresh of Northrend and Outland will be done.

i wouldnt expect it to be much work to them, they just need to bring certain elements together to make it geniunly seem that its in a different time period.

i would preferably like to skip Outland/Northrend of my doggie and green midget.

Oh dont get me wrong, I know its going to be a huge expansion. But they most likely tweaked the experiance gain so its level 80-85 instead of 80-90 so they can fit in more expansions between now and 100.
 
I for one look forward to seeing what new can come of this game because watching the PTR testing its just more of the same in cata raiding. For me its the social side that will keep this game going as nothing has moved on far from BWL/AQ40 times in terms of mechanics. I now have an amazing guild (even though it fails a lot) and that makes this a social expierence that has a challenge. Its like an enjoyable works away day!

I would disagree with the first part of what you say there; the raids in Cataclysm so far look amazing. The bosses have mechanics you actually have to learn and that are fantastic, at least in concept.

And yeah, of course a major part of an MMO is the social side. And even if the playerbase as such consist of people I do not necessarily want to play with, having a guild that you love makes it thoroughly enjoyable.
