World War III

China has no interest in rivaling the US on a military level, in the sense one super carrier vs another, it just isnt going to happen when you look at the task ahead.
Instead they're creating a military desined to take advantage of US weak points, the carrier killer missile for example. Why invest heavily in R&D when you can simply steal it from another county or steal the designs & create a system to cripple it, not rival it (F-35). Its all very sneaky but i get the feeling China simply doesnt want the US sticking its beak in their business so they achieve this by doing the above. Its all good & well overtaking the US in economic terms (within the next decade they say) but the US would use its military powerprojection to influence China.

Im more concerned with the US & its willingness to 'moved aside'. Obama calls China an "outstanding partner" but when you look at the amount of conflicts the US has been involved in/started, you have to wonder if they will play that game.

When you think about all the great stuff the US has (freedom of speech, living standards, healthcare, wealth, infrastructure) they still have an unpleasant side (CIA, blacksites, invading countries on p(ss poor evidence), you have wonder how China would do at "policing the world". But as i said i dont think China want to rival/threatern the US or police the world.

The way I understand it is that China's economic success is due to overseas companies using them for cheap labour, why would they want to destroy that by going to war?

With China chasing USA and not by much. Increasing its offensive might and dominating world trade - by keeping the strength of its currency down and cheap labour.

USA has stepped up its Pacific drills and 60% of its Nuclear subs are on the Chinese door step. Is north-south Korea just an excuse to up its might in the Pacific?

China increasing its offensive capabilities when it has no reason to do so, with the pressure on resources increasing and population increasing world wide. When will it happen?

The USA and China do far too much trade with each other to get even close to war. They're just doing the usual saber rattling that big countries do from time to time.

Albert Einstein said:
I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but world War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Personally I don't believe a third World War will ever taken place. The world today is intertwined economically on a scale never seen before and a World War isn't really "winnable" in a conventional sense anyway with the prospect of mutually assured destruction resulting from massive nuclear exchange.

Indeed, China is never interested in completing head to head with anyone on a military level, but they want to be a powerhouse economically speaking. The funny thing is, is that the bigger they get the more diluted the countries political aspect will be. It has already been diluted to a large degree in the last 20 years and within a further 20 i think it will be more or less completely westernised.

Name one period in history when China employed a prolonged military expansionist policy when it quite clearly has had the capacity to do so for 95% of the past 3000 years. Because it is quite easy to see when China has had an economically expansionist policy in that timeline.

So no it is most likely not going to happen. They have the capacity to take Taiwan by force now most likely and the US could do very little to prevent that yet they do not. And I strongly suspect the want that little island back as a matter of pride and also because of the events surrounding the whole split between communist and nationalist china.

Not long after China's Twelfth Five-Year Guideline we will probably see the Yaun increase in value and become the new world currency. China will control America, they will not like it and then game over.
