THQ ANNOUNCES WORMS: OPEN WARFARE 2
Team 17's classic Worms series is set to return: in the forms of Worms: Open Warfare 2 for PSP and Nintendo DS. Following in the footsteps (or wriggle-tracks?) of its legendary predecessors, Worms: Open Warfare 2 brings back the classic 2D gameplay with all sorts of extra features, and squeezes it all onto your favourite handhelds.

The first point of note is the enhanced online multiplayer mode for both systems, meaning not just local multiplayer games, but fully international deathmatches, stats and leaderboards. And to spice up the uniquely compelling multiplayer mode even further, there's a whole host of new customisation options. This time round you can create your own custom landscapes; as well as team flags, modified hats, tombstones, victory dances and more...

On top of the classic deathmatch, there are also new single and multiplayer modes in the form of Rope Race, Forts, Puzzle and Campaign modes. There's even a new Firing Range to try your hand at the 11 new weapons: such as the Bunker Buster, Buffalo of Lies, Super Sheep, Concrete Donkey and Holy Hand Grenades!

The new levels take our warmongering worms across battlefields past and present, from the Spanish Armada conquest in "Pirates" to the laser punctuated skies of "Space War."

Worms fans are in for a real treat here; it's no wonder Official Nintendo Magazine has already said "its hard to imagine this being anything other than the greatest Worms games yet."

Exactly.

Although misguided, I have high hopes for this one.

Im hoping for a Worms World Party 'esque type game. That would rock on the DS.

I'll wait to hear if its got single cart multiplay first with most of/all of the game functionality, if so then i'll get excited.

I'd buy that for the DS, the XBLA version left me a little flat in terms of map types and weapons.

Yeah - they should really release some downloadable content for it....extra weapons, more modes, different names for worms etc etc etc

The current version of Worms on the DS isn't great.
I only paid £9.99 for it so I'm not too upset - I would have been if I'd paid full price for it.

According to ONM it has a single player demo you send over, so I don't think you will see single cart multiplayer.

Thats what they did with Lost Magic, I think it's stupid.

Edit: Just read more in ONM, and there us single cart multiplayer :D

Why dont they just remake the original and stick it on. None of the recent versions have been any good :(

Thats basically what this version is.
I'm really looking forward to it.
