Worse job advert ever?

£12-16k in Glasgow is probably not that bad, it's more than an SPL footballer probably gets outside of Celtic/Rangers :D (not sure whether to include Rangers in that sentence any more..)

The advert is designed to appeal to a 'certain type' of person I would think ;)

I don't know 1 person that earns 16k down here, I'd love to earn that kind of money.

I know that there are a lot of high-earners here, folks being computer-oriented, but I gotta agree with you. I was a 1st-line tech, started on £13.5k in 2003, finished up on £15k in 2009. Now I'm in customer services, on £12.5k, earning less than I did 9-12 years ago, and mates around the my area are on similar amounts.

Perfectly serious, most people I know down here (Newquay) work in hotels/bars/restaurants/shops/supermarkets, 16k a year is a like a dream wage to most people down here.

Also many people down here are over the last few years seem to be getting their hours cut back due to tax credits, my boss actually said that "well your wages are supplemented by the government" when I asked for more hours, I used to earn over minimum wage but since the advent of tax credits I'm back on minimum wage because the way the boss sees it is why pay me more when the government will pay the extra.

This system is so f'd up atm.

Same around here, I guess it depends on the area or even social circle. Most people from around here are lucky to become factory workers, apprentice tyre fitters or get on the check outs at Asda. I've always aimed higher.

Seriously? That's really screwed up, what an **** hole. Do you actually have a family to have tax credits? Also... kids are expensive... more so as they get older.... what a *****.

No, I'm single, no children, it's surprising how many people think you can only claim tax credits if you have a family.

I must admit when tax credits first came out I was pretty chuffed, but now I'm starting to think it was a bad idea, initially it was about trying to get people into at least part time work with some extra cash to help them, but from what I've been seeing it's been turning a lot of full-time work into part time, because the government have made it a lot easier to live on part time wages employers take advantage of that, they can trim the fat off your hours because they know your get tax credits, where as back in the day if my boss cut my hours I would have to leave the job and neither I or my boss wants that, so they would keep you on full time.

See I just don't know anyone on that low a wage down here (Oke, Laun, Hols, Bude area) which is why I find it surprising. I know people in all walks of life down here and they are all on over min wage, including hotel staff (apart from 16-18 year olds doing part time in cafes etc.). I've also known a few who worked the summers/part time down in Newquay and they too were on more than min wage. Sounds more like your employer is taking the pee and you're just accepting it to be honest.
