worst thing to happen to your pc

Had a power surge which destroyed most of the pc along with a few other electronics that were on, managed to get it replaced on the house insurance though so all good.

A couple years later with an upgrade running old pc to get files off it a friend joked about water cooling to which my young nephew tipped his juice all over it - That was the end to getting information off that hdd.

The funniest I know, one of my best friends got annoyed at her new boyfriend spending time on his laptop so she decided to hide it in the dishwasher thinking it would be the last place to look. She forgot about it being in there and at turned the dishwasher on.

had an old agp p4 pc from 2004 and back in 2009 i plugged in my phone to charge, minutes later, i see a huge bright flash, BANG, fizz, spark, smoke, smell of burning. quickly cuts off power from wall. seem the power supply ( 550watt) had blown, wouldnt turn back on, lost all my studio and sound design work i was JUST about to release, no money.

a full year i waited until i got the specs i got in my sig, had the new pc 3 weeks now, everything sbeen alright ( fingers crossed) whats best is i got nostalgia when i realised the old pcs hard drive ( with all my studio data on) was SATAII, managed to install it into new pc, now i have all the stuff i was ready to sell :D ...

only music changes with the wind, and now all the sound are outdated :/

Was finishing a build.
I put all my parts on the flore so i cound reach them easy... But i was bursting for a wee.
got up to go for a wee but my trouser leg got caught on the case, i tripd and landed on 2x 8800gtx's, a q6600 and a brand new £300 mobo...
Needless to say i was in pain cus those things are sharp... but they still worked fine apart from requireing a few new caps from RS componants :P

my biggest one goes back in my days of extreme cooling.

AMD TB1200mhz @ 1566mhz. Watercooled 220Watt TEC. Cold October morning, during startup my idle temp drops to -10c. I lower the voltage to the TEC and fire up Prime95 to get some heat into it and my computer freezes. Took all the insulation apart to find a nice puddle of water over the CPU and socket. My insulation had failed lol.

back in the day before cd roms had a "shell" around the molex slot to ensure that you plugged the molex in right. I unfortunatly (in a rush) only plugged in three pins (leaving one out to the left. I turned it on to have half my psu cables melt.

Also blew the capacitors in another psu... lol

My computers were always lucky with me, but imagine such situation. You are after PC maintenance for others, you came in to nice girl first time to repair her Windows, pull off her hard drive to make a data copy, plug it into your laptop and smell... melted power cables because of short circuit in her drive ;-)
Priceless experience...

Was building a new build a few years ago, missus made be a brew, brought it in to the office, stood on one of the screws and leaped out, send a full cup off coffee right in to the case over the new asus board, cpu, cooler, ram etc.

Coming downstairs in the morning I notice a strange odour
PC is off (odd) and won't switch on.
Check PC (case side was off) and find a strange yellow oily substance coating many of the components.
Notice that the smell is stronger and sniff some of the yellow substance.
Eeek it's cat wee.
Walk around the house thinging  hth did a cat get in.
Check old cat flap and realise that neighbours cat had physically forced it's way in snapping the lock
Discover that it has also marked 2 other PCs as it's territory (fortunately only on the outside of the case!)

What did this cat have against my PCs
Nearly everything was dead in the first PC ... the components that weren't, smelt so bad when they warmed up I had to junk them anyway :(

Cat flat is now covered in a roll of gaffer tape.
