might sound like a strange upgrade, but i have a wee shuttle and limited in power usage and space, the 9800GT is as good as i can get from what i hear, if i go for the single slot one it should just fit in nicely, do you think i will get much of an improvement in gameplay?

Personally, If I were you, I'd forget the 9xxx series all together.

From the small amount of research I've done, the only difference between the 8800GT and 9800GT is the revised core. Speeds are the same. I'm not sure how well the 9800GT overclocks in comparison. I suppose the smaller core will mean better temps.

It just comes down to how much you want to save.

Someone correct me if there's any misinformation here...

I don't think the 9800 GT is really a worthy jump from the 9600 GT. The real world performance difference is quite small. At the least I'd say get a GTS 250 1GB or similar (provided you can find one that meets the power requirements, of course...)

ati 4850 would be my reomendation

these both seem to be duel slot, and the shuttle is limited to a single slot :(

Try and find a reference design 4850, that's the best single slot card commonly available iirc. I think someone released a single slot 260 but I don't think that made it to Europe.

There should be 260s as single slot cards but how available is another matter. I think the 9800 is rebranded as a 240 or another such card; cba be arsed to keep with NV numbering system.

The stock cooler (single slot) for the 4850 is rubbish so your case airflow is going to have to be good.

I saw a performance increase going from a 9600gt to an HD4770 although maybe it was a small one in game.

But 3D benchmarks saw a marked improvement.

i have been offered a 4850 with a Akasa Vortexx Neo cooler (single slot) for £50 does that sound a fair price? and will be better than the 9600gt

HD4850, but with stock cooler which sucks your case would need great airflow or it will get too hot in there

I remember seeing a single slot GTX260 on the fourm a few months ago

£50 seems like a decent price giving that its got a better cooler also considering the value would be around £90 I would have through

its true never knew that they made 260 single slot looks good to
