Worth installing Vista on this?

I currently have the following spec:

Asus Vintage AE-1 Barebones
AMD64 3200+
2x 512MB Samsung PC3200 RAM
Samsung Spinpoint 320GB HDD

Currently have XP on there at the moment, if I was to install Vista on there would I notice a slowdown?

I don't use it for gaming, just web design and a bit of music editing along with the usual web browsing, email etc.

Anyone stuck Vista on a similar spec?

If it's any help, my Mum recently got herself a Dell C521. 1GB of RAM and an Athlon64 X2 4000+ or 4200+ (can't remember which). Anyway, had a play around with it while I was up there and it seems pretty solid; obviously it's a dual-core and yours is not, but it makes little difference for general Windows usage. It didn't feel as quick as my own machine obviously, but still very usable. Adding in another GB of RAM would probably speed things up nicely.

Only thing I would have there would be 2GB of memory rather then 1GB. Vista + Games will run much better. :)

I found Vista is seriously crippled on single core chip, my other machine has a A64 3000+ Venice clocked to 2.2Ghz with 1Gb of DDR ram and Vista performs well on it don’t get me wrong but the CPU extensive tasks are somewhat limited under Vista using this chip, you need to have a dual core or HT enabled chip to get the most out of Vista IMO & experiance.

By all means give it a try :)

I installed Vista on an old XP2800+ with 1GB a few days ago. It feels a little sluggish compared to XP and I had a bit of trouble getting compatible drivers for some of my old hardware but other than those two problems it seems fine. Having said that, if you have no wish to play DX10 games why bother.

I had vista on a very similar spec, except it was a 3600+ dual core.

However, i rekon you'll be okay - xp will be nippier .

Although i'd be inclined to turn off Aero, infact unless you need any of the other bits and bobs from premium/ultimate i'd be tempted to say install vista basic - since it comes with so little services etc running initaly should be good
