Vista is obsolete.

Q8300 alone is £140, but it's also not very future-proof (compared to i5) and is outstripped by any Q9x50, which aren't much more.
GT220 is cheap as chips - with GDDR3 RAM, 128Bit memory bus and a 600MHz graphics core :p Basically, it's fairly old technology (equivalent to an 8600GTS) brought out again for some reason.
And the rest of the spec is non-descriptive, except the 640Gb HDD, which could be a WD caviar. But I doubt it. I'd hazard a guess at the system being worth no more than £350, and with a distinct lack of future proofing that will cost much more than you get out of it.

"4 Gb working memory" I'd avoid this just for that, as a 32bit operating system won't address 4gb, working or not.

Basically - It's not a complete rip-off, but any self-respecting 'enthusiast' (by enthusiast I mean 'customer who is slightly computer literate') would not go for it. Personally, I'd much prefer to get one spec'd here on OC forums (or anywhere else for that matter) than buy off-the-shelf from any supermarket. What usually happens is that they put good stuff in the 'high profile' areas (CPU and/or GPU) and then skimp as much as possible everywhere else. (In this case the graphics, and usually the case).

EDIT: Take of the links to competitors (even if it's really not a very good competitor :p) and then someone might spec a rig for £400-£500 which will be infinitely more satisfying in the long run than that offering above.

I think the PC in the OP is fine, and not terribly bad value at £400. Medion do seem to spec some decent PC's for the money. And that's not a bad example, with a Windows 7 upgrade included it's probably one of the better high street deals - and much better value than the purple shirts
