Is it worth to wait for the R600. Im gonna buy a gaming rig in 2 or 3 months from now.. but guessed you could give me some hints. I hear the R600 will be a bit high on price. So any help here guys?

If your not building for 2-3 months, then its definately worth waiting imo, once the R600 comes out it should push prices down of the G80's, and there'll be a lot more cards out, like Nvidia's mid-range 8600's etc... and also ATi's mid-range carsd are coming to, so you'll have a lot more choice as well. :)

^ agreed,

i was about to get a 8800gts320mb untill i saw a R600 post saying it will be out within 1-3 months.

so im waiting. i currently have 220 pounds (im 15, so i get 20 pound per week) and will have 380 ish in 3 months if the R600 decides to take all of the 3months estimated to be releised :)

Well if you wait dude, you'll keep waiting and waiting for soemthing newer and better. There's never a good time to upgrade.

Get a 8800gts and enjoy it.

That reminds me I'd better cancel my deposit for my Moller Skycar M400,

While agreeing with you somewhat yorkshire there are still good times to buy. If you look at the price of the GTX you'll see a very gradual decline in price since it's been released. When the R600 comes out we can realistically hope for a sharp dip in price. Same goes for other high end cards from nVidia. There'll also be much more choice with the mid range DX10 cards coming out.

My 2 cents is to wait and see what the situation is like in two months. Hopefully it will be one of those rare "good times to buy" ;)

True, but as he said, he's not buying for 2-3 months, R600 will be out then, so why buy a G80 now and just leave it in its box for 3 months until he gets a rig to put it in. :)

That statement sums up the top-end graphics card market. If you're looking to buy the cutting edge technology there's never a best time to buy. The only time the prices go down is when new technology is released, by which time you'll just want that instead, etc.

Indeed, IMO the best time to buy is just after a new card comes out... and buy the card it replaces. I use a X1800XT purchased when prices plumeted after the X1900XT. It's still plenty good enough and far better than most people use.
