Worth upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista?

No, its not the PC, it runs like a dream as is, if I try to update it simply wont have it.

One of the updates causes a reboot loop. No idea which one.

EDIT: SP1 is installed, I have 112 updates waiting. very annoying.

Also sp2 readiness tool will not run.

Then if it does not do updates then there is still something wrong with the PC.

I have a PC thats near to 100% exactly like yours

My love is Gigabyte DS3 Boards.

I have a few few of them, plus I have 3 DS4s. One of them the P35 DS4 like yours and thats running Vista64 100% perfectly fine, and, guess what? Its a Q6600 and an XFI on that too even more funky... 4GB Geil.

Trust me... Its not Vista thats at fault in your case.

Perhaps an issue happened previously, but right now, Vista works flawlessly and your Setup works well with Vista, so...

Ok, you have all those updates, but have you downloaded the complete SP2 ?

SP Readyness tool wont run? Then you do havbe an issue with your PC then and not Vistas fault.

Fresh install?

possibly, I'm on OEM, i have a feeling I either have run out of installations or am close to it...

Tbh I would really like to avoid a fresh install if I can help it.

Even if you are on OEM, if the auto activation dont play, you can simply do it over the phone.

if they moan about it, you can easily say that you have only bought a new HD or something.

Even though their policy is to only allow a few installs with OEM software, and even though they do sometimes give people a bit of grief about re-activating Windows, you will soon get it done and its better to have Vista with SP2 than SP1 anyday.

Why not just EMail MS and ask them?

Why not phone them up and tell them your worries. You will be surprised... MS are not the evil twisted company you think they are.

Thanks for the advice, I'll bite the bullet and give a fresh install a go :)
