I currently have a note 9 , am contemplating upgrading to the Huawei p30 pro.

But unsure whether I should wait for a 5g phone.

What would the benefits be over 4g?

Phone mainly used (when on 4g) for music/YouTube/browsing/bit of gaming/maps.

I'm not even convinced there was much use in going to 4g in my use case. 5g is a way to sell you a need you didnt know you had.

Do you find that your download speeds are insufficient at the moment ? If not, then dont bother waiting.

Quite frankly, as said above, even 3G works perfectly well for decent video, internet, etc etc... 4G a little better/snappier ... so what are you really needing 5G for at the moment ( in my books, very little )

I've never seen 300mbit on 4g, 4g I've never seen above 60. With my 5G Gigacube it's mostly around 200mbit average, at first it wasnt brilliant but they've improved it recently .

Seriously? Whenever I have 3G it is awfully slow.

4G is good, but 5G is pretty much better in every way. It'll just need a few more years to become more normal. At the moment its very much for enthusiasts

No doubting 5g is better but it just needs to mature as mentioned. I've seen a lot of posts on other threads of people not 'upgrading' to 4g handsets which I think for the vast majority of us is just daft. I'll certainly have no need for a 5g device for at least a couple of years - and I could go through 2 or 3 phones in that time :p.
If you're due an upgrade and don't have solid 5g in your area just save your money and either hold off or just get a non 5g phone.

Me personally, im holding off on upgrading until the end of the year where I will get a 5G phone. Even if 5G won't be fully ready by then, I plan on holding onto my phone for 2-3 years by which 5G will be much better and much more common.

What doesnt make sense is for people who don't regularly upgrade phones, to go out and buy a 4G phone now as it might be a a few years before they even get the chance to use 5G. Of course if you are a regular upgrader it doesnt make much of a difference

A valid point. However, (and I don't mean to stereotype) but those people out there who may keep a phone for 3+ years would they necessarily even need 5g? I know plenty of people who can't tell from one minute to the next if they're on 3g, 4g or even WiFi (of which my Dad is one)! 5g is certainly for the enthusiast at present and those sorts of customers will generally upgrade much more often.

Yep thats a fair point, a lot of people probably won't even care as long as they can load up instagram and facebook and scroll through their feeds without losing connection

Think it depends on the network. With EE looking at my speedtest checks the highest DL speed over 4G I've had is 141Mbps. I quite frequently get around 100 as long as signal is decent.

The geek in me wants 5G but I've no need for it in reality. I'll wait for it to be more common

I'm not going to bother with 5G until it matures further, in terms of both networks and phones. We don't even have 5G mmWave yet which is where the real speed boost is and will help with congestion in crowded areas. 5G phones also use more battery than 4G phones, so it's worth waiting for that to mature to lower the power usage. And I think Ofcom is still auctioning extra bands for 5G as well so current phones may not support those future frequencies.

3G is fast enough but I found being within London, congestion can really slow it down to the point where I could only do basic browsing. 4G allowed me to be able to stream media without too much issue. There's still some areas within the city though where I found even 4G can't cope with the congestion, which is why I'm waiting for 5G mmWave to come out before I'm tempted to upgrade.
