Worth waiting

18 Oct 2002
Hi all,

Im looking at the BTwin 8.1, as it seems to have the best components for the money (max £500 on the cyclescheme). Currently decathlon stock the 2011 version, but I wonder if its worth waiting for the 2012?

The specs for 2011:

Weight : 12,85 Kg in Size S
Frame : double thickness 6061 T6 aluminium; racing frame geometry; 1.9kg in size L. Hardwearing and lightweight. Its frame geometry provides the best compromise for climbing and downhill riding.
Suspension/Shock absorbers : New Rock Shox RECON Silver TK 100mm fork. Remote Lock out at the handlebar. Effective rebound adjustment and lockout with a half turn of the lever.
Drivetrain : Shimano Deore M590 22x32x44 crankset; SRAM X - 7 front derailleur; SRAM X - 7 rear derailleur; SRAM PG950 11x32 9-speed cassette.
Braking : Avid ELIXIR 3 hydraulic disc brakes, 160 mm rotors.
Handlebar/stem/saddle : Rockrider Comp 600/400mm raised handlebar; Rockrider Comp stem; b'Twin MTB comp saddle. Oversize handlebar and stem
Wheels : Rockrider Comp 32 hole rims by Rigida JT D041/D142 hubs, 2mm stainless steel spokes Watertight bearings.

And for the 2012:

Frame :: aluminum 6061 T6 double butted: racing geometry, 1.850 kg in size M. Durable and lightweight. The geometry offers the ideal compromise to climb and descend.
Suspension: New Rock Shox Recon Silver TK 100 mm Remote Lock-Out to the handlebars. Adjusting rebound effectively and can block with a half turn of the lever.
Transmission: Pedal Shimano Deore M590 22x32x44 chainset SRAM X-7 front derailleur, rear derailleur SRAM X-7, 9 speed cassette SRAM PG950 11x32.
Brakes: Avid Elixir hydraulic disc brakes 3, 160mm rotor.
Handlebar / Stem / Headset: Handlebar raised Rockrider Comp 600/640 mm stem Rockrider Comp oversized handlebar and stem
Saddle / Seatpost: New Comp MTB saddle Rockrider by icing
Wheels: Rockrider Comp 32 hole rims by Rigida JT D041/D142 hubs, stainless spokes 2 mm sealed bearings.
Tires: New Tire Michelin Country Trail
Pedals: Wellgo 823 Pedal Car WPD.

Now I'm no expert, but there doesn't seem to be a huge difference. I think the 2012 looks nicer though.

Am I missing something?

The only difference is the paint job.

If the 2011 is cheaper, get it.
If not, get whichever you prefer the look of.
