Hi all,

I probably know the answer to this question already. Perhaps I am just in denial.

I have my eyes set on the Samsung LE40F86 and the new LE40A656. Ideally the later which isn't as wide.

So my bedroom is 10ft by 11ft. Would I be completely mad to go for a 40" tv or should I go smaller. None of the shops seem to have the 37" 6 series

I cut out some paper and celotaped it to my wall with the exact dimensions of the LE40 A656, 100 wide * 67 high. It does look big!

I have 11 days to get a decent tv. (GTA4)
:D

Go for it, i have a projector setup about 86" in my room which is about the same size :p.

If you go for the smaller size, you soon get used to it and will be kicking yourself for it. imo.

As long as it doesnt engulf your field of vision then it should be fine. 86" sounds obscene and akin to sitting right at the front in the cinema which IMO is horrible but others like. Your best bet is to see instore and stand around the same distance from the set as it would be in your room.

A 40" LCD will be great for GTA4, if you are using it for console gaming then theres no problem of sitting too close.

I have a 40" inch sammy on the wall in my bedroom. I could easily move up another couple of sizes so go for it.

The THX recommended screen size for a 6 foot viewing distance is just over 50". That should put it in perspective.

This size/distance also allows you to take full advantage of 1080p, much smaller and you won't get the full benefit.

Edit: a 40" tv has a recommended THX viewing distance of 4.5 feet, with a maximum of 6.3 feet.

Well, 4.5 ft would be perfect for me!

OMG. Bloody typical, as soon as I almost make up my mind the bloody shop is out of stock!

Cool, how does the PS3/Xbox360 look on it? Did you bother forking out the cash on over priced HDMI/SCART cables?

looks great

didnt fork out any extra cash for anything just bought the tv, all my devices use hdmi so no need for scart, just cheapo hdmi cables as they only need to be 1-2metre long
