Would a new CPU give me a good increase?

EDIT: Apologies sorry just glanced at the mobo and thought it was socket 775. I'm pretty sure you need that orange bit to fit most coolers although some will fit without it. What happened to it?

I have no idea where it's got to. Well that's going to be a hurdle. :(

Unless I get a CPU for £50 and try and drop on a mobo for about £30?

Cheers

You wouldn't be able to fit the stock cooler without the orange bit as it has hooks on it which are used to mount the heatsink.

Why not try overclocking the E6750 to 3.2ghz and see how it copes? You should be able to do that on the stock cooler

Remembered it's name finally!

Just google AM2 retention bracket. Seems as though you can get a replacement on the cheap.

I would consider giving that cooler a go, getting it to 3.2Ghz and see what happens.

Would I see a noticeable performance increase from 2.6 to 3.2?

Cheers

i got the e6600 running at 3.1ghz stock cooler without voltage increse.... with voltage increase can run it at 3.4

3.6 is definatly possible with stock cooler (google it there a few done this)
with a decent coolor yes it is possible to run at 3.8,
Increase the vcore to 1.40vish

I tried just a 2.8GHz earlier on (I have a stock Intel cooler, it's huge, can't remember which CPU it came from) but at full load after a short time the temps hit 70c.

I think it's because the fan is rather dusty and some of the fins are bent after years of use, probably also need some new thermal on now to.

When overclocking will I run into any problems with my RAM? My mobo RAM slots are 800MHz and 1.8V but the actual ram is 1066MHz and 2.1V.

I know my mobo can handle it fine at 800MHz and 1.8V, just wondering if this could cause any problems if I will need to change RAM settings?

Cheers
