Would a new CPU give me a good increase?

I did as suggested today and I cleaned out the CPU Fan and applied some new thermal.

It's made a massive difference. I only stepped it up to 2.8GHz but when I did that yesterday using IBT my temps hit 70c within the space of minutes, now my temps settle around 55C... Not to bad for a stock cooler.

Going to up it to 3.00GHz now and see what it's like. :D

Cheers

Got it stable at 3.1GHz now with decent temps. Think I'll stay put.

I left my RAM settings all on Auto, will that be ok?

As I said before, I don't know much about this platform but 3.1Ghz stable sounds good to me and should give you a nice improvement :)

Someone else will know for sure, but on auto your RAM should be perfectly fine - especially if you've checked and the system is stable. If you wanted you could double check in CPU-Z that the RAM is running at the settings you'd except

i know with mine if you go above 3.1 you will have to set the multiplyer to x 9 and increase the voltage just a little bit and you could push more out of it if you needed to.

Don't want to go to far though with it only being on a stock intel cooler. I think I'll see how it's like for now, I really am thinking about buying an i3 bundle anyway to be honest.

did you runs 10 x test through ibt? its always a good idea to run prime 95 for few hour so you can keep and eye on your temps. also try core temps get more of accurate temp between 2 or 3 programs i find that helps

Thanks a lot.

I have another semi-unrelated question.

I'm thinking about buying an i3, new mobo and 8GB DDR3.

Would that be a worthwhile improvement over the E6750?

Many thanks

I haven't give it a proper test yet mate, it's just I feel really behind with my hardware and I haven't properly upgraded for ages.

Looking at those benchmarks the i3 seems quite infront of the E6750. Would it be worth it?

Hmm...

It's an i3 2120 guys. And nope all's I get is the i3 so I'll have to get a mobo and RAM. Mobo to crappy then? :( Really is the furthest I can stretch my budget...

Cheers
