Would a used Optoma HD141X still be a good purchase?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking a getting my first projector and after reading a good bit about it I've come to the conclusion that the Optoma HD145X is considered to be a very good entry for a budget buyer.

My budget was initially no more than £350 and given that these are about £500 new, would it be much of a downgrade going with an earlier model like the HD141X when it can be had for around the £200 mark?

Also, in regards to the used market, are there any other recommendations?

Thanks for the info @Pottsey

It'll only ever be for casual viewing and I'm by no means trying to build a "home theatre" for under xxxxx.

However, I am trying to get something with decent brightness and at the very least native 1080p while not spending too much.. just in case I then realize it's just a itch that needed no scratch!

Just for added info. Look at the colour wheel with the HD145X you will find it will be something like RGBWRGBW with the w being white which makes them much brighter but means the colours are not as deep, not as rich but still decent enough for watching. While the higher end projectors tend to be more RGBRGB without the W so have deeper, richer colours. Lastly if you have not used a DLP projector before test it out before buying if possible. A very small percentage of people see rainbows with this style of projector.
Okay, a bit more reading later and I'm now considering the Epson EH-TW750 as an option as well.

It seems quite bright with a much shorter throw than the Optoma so it might be more suitable.

It's also 3LCD compared to DLP, so should be better, right?
