He's currently on
AMD XP 2800+ (2083Mhz)
1GB RAM (6-3-3 @ CAS2 166Mhz)
Radeon 9600Pro 128MB (overclocked to 420/660)
The new system would be:
AMD64 3500+
1GB RAM (7-3-3 @CAS2.5 200MHz)
X600Pro 128MB (slightly more nippy than a 9600Pro I heard, similar to a 9600XT)
or
6600 Basic 256MB
or
(anything else I can find semi-grunty before xmas for about £40)
He can then upgrade the graphics later ofc, as it would now be a PCI-E mobo, unlike the old AGP.
-edit have managed to pick up a 6600 256MB. If it overclocks nicely, he should be very happy, should be a nice performance jump, and actually able to play Oblivion properly at 1024x768 with some settings on, rather than running crap
