I was fitting an adsl modem for a friend yesterday when we kept hitting a problem The modem would not connect. I tried everything I new.

Then out of interest I put her previous dial up 56k modem back in and it connected.

This made me think that despite the letter saying she had been switched to broadband this infact may not have happened.

My question is would the 56k modem still work if her line had been switched to broadband? I did not think it would. But she still has 56k internet access

Dial Up will still work regardless of you having broadband.

Have you checked with the ISP to see if your friend has been connected?

They were no help at all. She has just called me to say she cancelled with Orange (Wanadoo) and is going to arrange it with another ISP.
The I will try again!

When we first got broadband we got the modem before we were activated, and we had to wait a few days before we could connect. It could always be something simple like password, those kinda thing always stump me :p
