Hi all,

I want to set up a wireless network in my house. This will consist of 2 PC's, one on the 2nd floor and one in the basement. The phone line connection is up on the 2nd floor and the broadband is supplied by AOL.

So would buying a Netgear DG834PN 108Mbps Rangemax Wireless ADSL2 Modem/Router/Switch/Firewall (NW-083-NG) and a Netgear WPN111 108Mbps Rangemax Wireless USB 2.0 Network Adapter (NW-084-NG) be ok? Is there a better and/or cheaper alternative that will work just as good?

The PC in the basement will mainly be used for playing online games and downloading stuff a lot of the time, so I need a pretty good connection, and because of the distance, running a cable is out of the question.

Thanks in advance

Ricky

does your master socket come in at 2nd floor level? and do you have phones anywhere else? If so, plug it into a filter on the 1st or ground floors as a 3 floor gap is going to push it for a connection at all, let alone a good quality one.

Whether it works or not will depend massively on the construction of the floors - ie you're not going to know for sure until you've set it up.

internal wiring may be a headache, but is there no chance to drop a wire out of the window down an external wall? Or make the phone point/ router location nearer the midpoint of the house?

homeplug using mains wiring may be viable but you would still need an adsl modem/switch
