Hello to all you awesome peeps, hope you are all doing well during this difficult time.
Any advice and thought on what i am going to post would be more than welcome as i'm umming and aahing over things and could do with some ideas/thoughts/guidance/divine inspiration, you catch my drift
I'm thinking of getting the pieces for an build over this year as i'd like to upgrade from my current pc and go for something different
This is what i had in mind:-

Corsair 4000X iCUE RGB Mid-Tower Gaming Case - Black
MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Carbon WIFI
Intel Core i7-10700K
Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO Black 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz
Corsair RMx Series RMx1000 PSU
Samsung 980 Pro 500GB M.2 2280 (for OS and programs)
Samsung 980 Pro 1TB M.2 2280 (for games)
Seagate 2TB Barracuda (for movies/music etc)

Now the next bits are the ones i would like advice about, for GPU:-

MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio
MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio

Either of these so thoughts on those would be nice, also looking at CPU coolers and have these as possible candidates, they are:-

Noctua NH-U12A
be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4
Noctua NH-D15
Noctua NH-D15S

Not sure what the difference is between the last two, other than colour
I also have 3 x LL120 RGB fans that will be going in to the case in addition to the ones it comes with.
And the monitor i am looking at getting is:-

Samsung Odyssey LC32G75TQSUXEN 32"

Sorry if this is a lot to get through, hopefully people more knowledgeable than me will be able to offer advice

Hi.

Intel dont offer pcie4 support yet untill the release of there next gen cpu in march, This may be supported on the z490 platform.

M2 drives are crazy prices you csn pick ip a 2tb m2 pcie3 for the same price.

Graphics card get the best you can afford and especially for high fps on your monitor choice.

Cpu coolers get the chromax (black) version if you go Nochtua the be quiet is also an excellent cooler.

You dont need a 1000w psu a good 850w would be more than enough.

You could consider the ryzen 5800X as an alternative although for gaming at 1440p you probably wouldn't notice a difference between that and a 10700k, you do get PCIe gen 4.0 with the ryzen and better efficiency + stronger multicore performance while having the option for up to 16 cores in the future.

What's your current PC?

And like said PCIe v4 drives are completely wasted on Intel platform lacking it.
(suspect they'll save it for Alder Lake)
AMD's Zen3 Ryzens actually have PCIe v4, along with X570 chipset also providing PCIe v4.

Anyway unless having more money than knowing what to do with it, PCIe v4 NVMe isn't sensible buy and then Samsungs are more or leass badly brand overpriced.
You could get 2TB PCIe v3 NVMe for lot less than those two Samsungs.

Heck, you could get 2TB PCIe v4 NVMe for less:

Also that memory is insanely brand overpriced for average latency.
This is more proper price for such latencies

And this £70 cheaper kit would actually have pretty nice latencies.

Because of Samsung's marketing dropping their collective arses on it, that monitor is very bent with curve far past usual.
This covers quite well negatives of such extremely bent panel:

I would recommend AMD route
cpu: 5800X
gpu: whatever you can get your hands on
ram: crucial 32gb 3600mhz cl16
psu: minimum 650w ideally gold or higher
cpu cooler: nh d15 or be quiet dark pro 4
storage: I would replace seagate 2tb barrucda with a 2tb ssd

Thankyou for all the advice/feedback in answer to
What's your current PC?
my current pc spec is:-

Intel i5-8600
16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000mhz DDR4
Gigabyte Z370P Motherboard
MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X
Corsair Carbide 400C
3 x LL120 RGB Fans
BenQ Zowie XL2430T
Seagate Firecuda 2TB
250GB WD Blue 3D Nand M.2
Corsair RM750x PSU
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo

I have a preference for the Intel/Nvidia route (had problems in the past with AMD, but that was a few years ago), but would obviously consider AMD/AMD route, i currently have a 24 inch 144hz gaming monitor and would be looking to get a 32" 144hz preferably, regarding the SSD/HDD combination, i was unsure of what would be best, i'd definitely want my games to load faster , at the moment they are on the 2TB Firecuda, realistically i would like them to be on an SSD, if i have missed anything please let me know and i would endeavour to answer it

I would recommend AMD route
what motherboard would you be thinking..?
You could consider the ryzen 5800X
thats what butter30 mentioned also

I was thinking of getting 1000W PSU to future proof myself
How hot would the CPU run if i went the Ryzen 5800x route compared to the i7-10700k?

You could Drop in a 9900k into your system and a 3080 and your good to go.

You could Drop in a 9900k into your system and a 3080 and your good to go.
Yeap this is the route I'd go down with your z370 system already in place, a 9900k costs around £300 and is essentially the same performance as a 10700k without the faff of having to change motherboards.

i hadnt actually thought of that, any ideas on 32" 144hz monitor...? is it worth going G-Sync...?

You mite need to update the bios on the motherboard for the 9900k to work.

Monitor with gysnc.

Thanks for that micky, will definitely investigate further, and will let you know, might even pick your brains a bit more closer to the date, lol

Thoughts on this :-

Also, if i decided to go the AMD route, what GPU would be best to pair with CPU etc

So of those you linked Esat, which would your recommendation be, do i put the OS and programs and games on one SSD or do i use 2, 1 for OS/Programs and 1 for Gaming..?

Its a good card but will it give you the performance that you want? This might help you decide which card you want https://youtu.be/Owrk_OnaPJo

Changing the nvme drives to pcie 3 will save you money towards say a 3080.
, Good thinking ASMB

The above complete build is because i want to adapt my old pc for someone with special needs, and could effectively give them a complete PC and getting myself a more up to date one, hence me looking at case, psu, monitor etc, also want to RGB my system as well, hence the iCUE 4000x, there is a question i do want to ask about that, in my current system i have 3 x LL120 fans, in the iCUE 4000x it has SP120 fans, will the LL120's work with the SP120, or should i look at a different case and just purchase some more LL120's, thoughts would be nice

The last thing is, is it worth going to AIO route with something like the https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...id-cpu-cooler-360mm-cw-9060048-hs-042-cs.html or
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...id-cpu-cooler-280mm-cw-9060047-hs-041-cs.html or https://www.overclockers.co.uk/cors...id-cpu-cooler-240mm-cw-9060046-hs-040-cs.html, and if i did go for the iCUE 4000x would i go for a black or white, and if i went for white then aesthetically speaking all white would be what i would be after, or am i just being too picky and arsey, lol

I wouldn't put a 9900K on that Z370P board. I think you are asking for trouble regarding VRM temps/throttling. If you do decide to give it a go then you will want some airflow over the VRM, so a fan etc pointing at it. You might have to get creative with cable ties :)

OP, what are you hoping to achieve with the upgrade exactly, are you way upping the resolution?

A 8600 is still a very competitive 6-core CPU, except in games that make good use of more than 6 threads.

If I were you, I'd rather buy a 3080 and keep the 8600, over e.g. a 3060 Ti and upgrade the CPU.

my current pc will be eventually be going to someone so it can be adapted for special needs, so i am looking to treat myself to a new complete system to play the following games, Diablo 3 and Diablo 4 when it comes out, Overwatch and Overwatch 2 when it comes out, Cyberpunk 2077, Wolfenstein : The New Order, Hearthstone, Dead by Daylight, and a few other games.
Looking to future proof myself for a few years regarding the system, its kind of a treat to myself after a really rough and crappy couple of years recovering from a serious accident, my intent is to RGB my new rig, and its the debating of things like SSD's, GPU's, weighing up the options and getting advice from some fantastic people like :-
mickyflinn, joxeon, EsaT, butter30. ASMB, lee32uk and yourself

There will probably be lots of hair pulling by me, ummming and aaahing, until i decided what we will end up with, obviously when i do decide on the parts and such, i will take photos and give a huge shout out to all those involved, its things like do i go for a good air cooler for my CPU with good air flow through the case or do i go for an AIO, lots of little decisions that will affect the end result
