Would you baptise your child - school

Oh look who has instantly raised their head to bash on Christianity. You were quick, ill give you that. Perchance, did you stumble upon this thread resurrection or are do you sit in the shadows waiting for your chance to strike.

For all your claims and bluster, you have still failed to raise one single viable source that supports anything you have to say.

Oh look who's getting rattled if anyone dares to dispute his overbearing beliefs in god, never mind however, I'm sure it'll all be worthwhile and there will be a nice place waiting for you in heaven whilst I stoke the boilers down below (incredible as it sounds you actually believe it as well )

Morons like you give atheists a bad name. You bang on about the superiority of atheism to religion just in the same way the extremists bang on about the superiority of their religion to atheism. So you disagree, that doesn't give you the right to insult other people's intelligence, belittle them or try to make them feel stupid.

Heaven and Hell are concepts and I doubt as many people honestly believe in Heaven and Hell as being below the Earth's surface and in the sky. It's an idea, not an absolute.

What people fail to realise is that you can make ANYTHING sound stupid by taking it to ridiculous extremes, this does not make the reality any more or less ridiculous however. For example, you could claim evolution is nonsense, after all fish don't become monkeys, monkeys don't become humans, this isn't Pokemon. You can make it sounds utterly ridiculous just by over simplifying the concept and making the parameters of the argument farcical.

As an atheist, I despise you and your ilk. You seem to follow a misguided belief that making others look stupid for believing something instantly validates your argument. That is not the cold hard science you hold so dear, it is nothing more than bigotry and the self-important rantings of a small-mind. Atheism is not a drive to prove every other religion to be a fallacy, atheism is a choice to not believe for whatever reason just as religion is not a drive to prove atheism a fallacy.

Very well said.:D

Just do it.

The kid will need the best education he\she can get, and if that means putting some water on his\her head then that's a small price to pay.

As i have said previously in this thread, if the parent believes they are somehow cheating the system and getting a good deal, i guarantee you the Christian ministers that operate the school are wringing their hands saying 'job well done'. The evangelistic mission of a Christian is foremost to spread the gospel, for evidently not all who hear will believe it.

As my own testimony, my parents were not at all religious but sent me to a Christian ethos school. During those years, i vehemently hated and despised 'religion' for many of the same reasons some of you do and actively rebelled against such despicable atrocities as prayer, or singing boring hymns. It was only later when my life turned to crud that i found Jesus. Why Christianity and not some other religion? One cannot simply ignore the fact that in the majority, Christianity was 'what i know' instilled by the school to which i attended. Had I attended an islamic ethos school, would i now be worshiping Alah and his prophet Muhammed?

I think you will find that izzy & bunnykillbot frequently argue with each other on this issue on various threads and bunnykillbot is equally insulting and belittling in his attitude to non believers such as izzy

Surely that would suggest that the validity of the religion has nothing to do with why you believe it, but more your upbringing? Your statement seems to be an argument against Christianity rather than for it.

Not really, they are all basically the same religion after all. I think he is questioning whether he would have found the answers in Islam that he found in Christianity if his awareness was greater when he was child (ie, by going to an Islamic School)

Really? So Islam has suddenly started believing that Christ was the Son of God? It has stopped suggesting that while they are mostly OK they have got the message wrong? Whilst well aware they are both Abrahamic faiths to say they are "basically the same religion" seems to be stretching it a bit...

More than likely he would. Much like he would have found them in hinduism, buddhism, toaism or whatever other religion the culture he was brought up in believed. It seems strangely convenient that the "right" answer just happens to be the one you were taught doesn't it?

The basis is the same....therefore 'basically'. They are intrinsically linked as their roots are in the Judeo-pagan religions of the Middle East. You can compare and contrast all three religions, but Islam and Christianity are very alike in message, if not in application. They are literally the opposite of each other in word, yet similar in creed. The 'yin and Yang' if you like.

The Quran (to an agnostic) can be seen as a rewritten Bible for the time in which it was written, the same as the Bible is a rewritten Torah along the same lines. For analogy, The same film remade for a different audience.

Not really, it just means that is the one in which he looked for answers. You seem to be intimating that he was purposely indoctrinated at school, I reject that.

You see it differently, then fine, it is no big deal. The only one who really knows is Bunnykillbot.
