Would You Buy A PS2 now?

Was wondering this today.

Would you buy one now or wait for a PS3?

Would you wait a lil and see if they come down in price?

or would you wait for the rest of the next gen stuff?

I've wanted a PS2 for quite a while, but given the fact that in 6 years it's barely reduced it's price, I've all but given up on getting a cheap one, and am instead thinking of waiting for a PS3, and hoping they get a price cut sooner than never. That way I'll be able to play all the PS2 games I'd really like to (Katamari, ICO, SotC, etc), but also have a next gen console on my hands.

If i was going to get a PS3 i'd probably wait a bit first, I got my PS2 when they were brand new for £200 and a month or two later they were same price with two or three games or something >.<

1) No, I wouldn't purchase a Playstation 2 now, IF you really wanted a Playstation 3 then you are best waiting for that. Even as an outsider I would be more interested in purchasing an Xbox360 and a Nintendo Wii though for the money you'd be paying for a Playstation 3. Purchasing a Playstation 2 at the end of it's life cycle would be a little daft as you would be paying a premium price for an older console with cheap games.

For all the life cycle of the Playstation 2 there are not that many must have titles, which is a shame. Game wise I don't think it's as much of a success as the Playstation 1 which had a phenomenal amount of must have games. For the Playstation 2 I would say: Ico, Shadow of the Collossus, God of War, Gran Turismo 4, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, Guitar Hero.... thats about it off the top of my head (and I thought MGS 2 was poor!).

2) They will come down in price, people will not pay that money new for a Playstation 2 when the Playstation 3 comes out. If you MUST have one, buy one second hand, it just seems daft to buy it brand new.

3) If you really want a new console then go with the Xbox360, it's a lot better than most people were expecting, the hardware is impressive and the software (dashboard) is nothing short of brilliance. It also has some very good games now and some which look absolutely amazing coming out (Gears of War, Mass Effect and Saints Row come to mind), it's also cheap, some people here have found amazing second hand deals, some such as £200 with an extra pad and a couple of games! Thats the Premium model too.

Same here, I got ****** off waiting for the ps2 to come down in price too and just went for an original xbox. Cheaper and the games are dirt cheap second hand and plus i'm impressed that even with the xbox360 being on the market for almost a year now but loads of games are STILL being released for the xbox!

Just bought a PS2 with metal gear solid 2 and 3, just something to do before i go back to uni and get a 360. Cost me £55 so cant complain, 2 great games for price of one xbox one!
